The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Forgot to post this yesterday but we finally have more than one layer!! I think we actually have 3 layers now! :D

I collected eggs for the first time in a while yesterday (2 or 3 days judging by the 3 EE eggs in there) BUT in addition to the EE eggs there were also 4 other eggs!! 3 similar looking and one smaller one which is why I say I think it is two more laying again instead of just one more. Smaller and a slightly different shape and when I made breakfast this morning, the yolk was also much lighter. There was also a broken egg in there but I couldn’t find any shell, they maybe ate it by now, but some shells had yolk on them, and there was a little bit left in the box, on the shavings, so cleaned that up. But anyway, finally more layers!! My EE has been the only one laying since like December or January. I think late December. And she has laid every day since she started again or close. We did have a few others laying at one point but that only lasted like 2 days  most stopped in the fall, maybe October. One of my EEs stopped in August and still hasn’t started back up again!! The others stopped sometime between August and October. I think most stopped September, October. So loooooonggggggg time without eggs and then long time with only 1 layer. So glad we are finally getting more eggs lol

I guess it takes longer to start back up again now that they are getting older. I can’t wait to get the new chicks in April hah

Today was an exciting day, as both of my 28 week old Mille Fleur D’Uccle hens laid for the first time today. :ya
So tiny and cute! They look like fairy eggs compared to my standard hen eggs!

Congratulations! :woot

I got 3 eggs (from my 5 girls) yesterday and 2 eggs today. It's really nice to see them again!

Awesome!! Glad everyone else is getting eggs again too!! Maybe my girls just weren’t ready yet until a few days ago. Just seems like from what I remember they always started up again much sooner, usually right after the molt and sometimes through winter, and they seemed like they took way longer this year. I guess that makes sense though given that they turned 3 on October 26th. I really should make chicken soup out of the slackers but they are my pets too and I am attached so they stay. They will always have a home here but I must say that I do hope my new EE takes after Diva (the super layer) and not Bunny (the slacker). :lau  I love Bunny but seriously.... 6 months without eggs now!! And even before she stopped, she really wasn’t laying much at all anyway. August is when she started her molt but honestly she was kinda slacking before then too and her egg laying has been sporadic. Meanwhile Diva was the first to lay way back at like 22 weeks old (although an Orpington also laid later that same day) and has always laid through the winter and pretty good size eggs. Not the biggest eggs or the prettiest color but very reliable.
