We've had one little cockatiel hatch this morning sometime between us visiting at 9am and taking them some more treats just after 11am. Hawkmoth was already feeding it (so much for what I read on the Internet that said the parents wouldn't feed it for 8 hours after hatching). It had pipped Friday afternoon (Sunday here now) so it's taken its time hatching, so it must've worked up an appetite as it was squeaking loudly, demanding food, and lots of it.

It's that little scrap of a thing by Hawkmoth's head (not easy getting photos in such an awkward place). Fingers crossed the other good egg will hatch (it looked a couple of days behind which isn't unusual for cockatiels). They take quite some time to start looking cute.

It’s definitely not like that everywhere!! Near us it’s ridiculous. Nothing really under $400,000 with most being like $500,000, $600,000, $700,000, and in our town specifically, there are lots near or over 1mil as it is a somewhat rich town. Ours is worth just under $600,000 now I think and we only have about 2.5 acres. Although the house is somewhat big, 5 bedroom, 2 bath. According to Zillow my parents got it for $238,500 in ‘96. So prices have gone up. But out in the country/rural areas like those it is much cheaper. Even not in the country, just in general, Midwest tends to be cheaper than here. The east coast is really expensive. Which is why I was looking out in the Midwest. :D

They sound divine! Enjoy them for me!

Hawkmoth is a gorgeously big girl - she's bigger than her mate, Chilly, and he's a good size. She's obsessed with our DD and wants to be on her all the time (especially her head)! They are such funny birds. The other hen, Dottie, keeps peeking at the baby. I'm sure she and her mate would willingly make a nest as well given half a chance but they'll have to wait.
