The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

See, and I don’t really agree. We have mostly brilliant, great kids out there - they just don’t get the attention because they aren’t seeking the attention! The sad truth is that the flamboyant, defiant kids currently have the limelight, which they believe gives them the power. They use that fleeting power to hurt others and inflate their own egos, which really don’t need more inflating anyway. And those in their paths cower, imagining every word as a personal condemnation even when it isn’t.

I used to know what “bullying” was. It was missing your bus home from school because someone was waiting to beat the stuffing out of you. It was used Kotex stuffed in your locker. It was having classmates walk as far from you as possible because you had “cooties”. It was having lit cigarettes tossed into your boots so they could see you dance. And it was persistent - kindergarten all the way up into high school. It was believing you were less than even adequate. It was getting out of the humiliating group shower after gym to find that your underwear had all disappeared and all the girls laughing as you had to get dressed without it so you wouldn’t be late for the next class. It was being tripped, having milk poured into your lunch, and teachers, staff and parents who kept telling you to “ignore it and they’ll quit” - but they never did. And it was surviving, forgiving, learning and vowing that you would never use cruelty to others as a way to feel bigger or smarter or prettier than someone else.

Now it’s simply saying that you don’t care for someone’s new hairstyle or gravitating toward a new set of friends as you mature. I’m not saying true bullying doesn't still exist - that would be ridiculous. But now social media has added a new dimension, and little things get blown way out of proportion from what was initially said. Feelings are too easily hurt, and the hurt is never forgiven. It used to be bullying was a face-to-face cruelty. Now it’s done with anonymity and people who would never behave that way to someone’s face have no problem doing it from a keyboard. So the disease spreads from one computer to another at lightening speed. But I still maintain that the majority of our kids are much kinder than that, and we hear about cyber-bullying because it’s so extreme.

I have a lot of hope for our future. Little Diane is a homeowner and business owner. She is in a business that is now coming under fire for the products she sells. Her cocky attitude and meanness won’t do her a bit of good when reality 101 sets in. Her looks won’t last forever, either. So I wait this adolescent stage out and when she’s ready to be a grownup I’ll be here. Have I ever mentioned how bad I am at waiting? :barnie

Of all that I don't remember of my much younger days, that comment brought back one memory. Yep every time they cranked the wires, I had a headache. I hope yours doesn't last too long!

This is the first I've heard of this Pete person. She used to (best of my knowledge) been devoted to you. I hope this Pete person isn't the type that controls.

 :th
That girl needs to read up on her WWII history A LOT.

:(

*I* would think so!! Maybe you have REALLY FLAT land, mowing my lawn on the rider is a whole body workout.
A lot of my place is flat but uneven and strune with armadillo holes. I haven't mowed it since all the rain we've been having, so it's pretty tall, need to mow it with a tractor and 'Bush Hog' first then go back over with the riding mower. anyway, going to finish mowing it today...just not going to stay on it for very long period of time, mow an hour take a break, then mow again. Most people hate summer because they have to mow...here I like it, cause everything dies if you don't water it and I'm not watering 2 acres of yard! :gig
