Do you know their genders? I've read people can tell by the sound of the "quack" and the upward tip of the tail but don't know how accurate that is. Can you tell I've never had ducks? :p

The only drake is the one that Deb commented on. :) The hens QUACK and the drakes rasp. I love ducks. :love

Not sure about the tail part but the quack part is accurate. The females are the only ones that quack. The males sound like... well, not sure exactly but kinda raspy/croaky :lau but of course they have to be old enough to lose the baby pip squeaks and start sounding like adults. :lau

I do know drakes also get a curly tail feather but idk about the upward angle bit. Or if it’s more than one feather that curls. But I do know they get at least one curly drake feather.

But of course it can also be hard to tell on the voice thing sometimes especially if new from what I hear. Sometimes they sound similar or are kind of right on the line/fence and you’re not really sure if it’s a quack or not haha usually then you have to try again when they’re a little older or just wait (hard if you’re impatient like me) or you could post a video and have more experienced people help if you’re desperate/impatient which is what I will probably do if/when* I get ducks. :lau :hide

*I say when not if because I LOVE ducks and think they are adorable and funny and cute and I WILL get them eventually but my dad hates ducks for whatever reason (says he’s scared of them? Why I don’t know. I think one chased him or something) and he doesn’t even like the taste of their eggs. Says they’re too rich or something, I forget the exact reason cause he told me a while ago. So ducks are a no go for now. Unless I want to try to convince my mom/get her on board with them. Which she might be because they are cute. Or I could just get them anyway since I pay for everything and do all the work by myself anyway and I’m an adult so I could but if he’s scared of them or whatever I don’t want to force that or push my luck ha besides, they are extremely messy and gross from what I hear and I’m not super big on mess ha but I will get them eventually. One day. I’m actually getting quail next anyway so one new species at a time for now. :P
 
I'm pooped today, did a whole lot of running around trying to find common items and the blankety blank stores didn't have them . Decided that I don't need them anyway.:tongue:tongue:tongue Need to recalculate what I can use instead.

That’s awesome! I want ducks eventually. I love them too. They are so cute. Way cuter than chickens even I think haha shhh I didn’t say that. :lau :hide

But my dad is scared of them/hates them. May be able to convince my mom though.

Or him.

He claims he’s scared of the chickens too and won’t go in their pen cause they “peck him” but he still loves them/they’ve grown on him and he talks to them every morning and loves their eggs. :lau

Sure he’d be the same with ducks if we got them ha
