waiting for my tomato juices to boil down again, trying to make pasta sauce for the first time since we eat hot sausage alot and the store bought sauce always has alot of sugar, trying a old country sauce that just tomatoes and a little salt, and of course, natural sugar from the tomatoes
tomorrow i have another bushel to make something with, not sure whether to make more sauce or more whole tomatoes:idunno

It is a good assortment, we think. We hope, probably foolishly, that at least one of the Brahmas will be like Tank was. Yep, order from My Pet Chicken again. I like them and their customer service. Already let the postmistress know they are coming and she made a note to have the Lovell PO call me as soon as they arrive there, which saves the chicks another 4 hours sitting in the sorting room.

Let me know how your sauce comes out, @sharron. Now that we’ll be homebodies again I’m planning next spring’s garden.

whats mpc debby?

Looks like Blooie already clarified...it's MyPetChicken.

Your sauce sounds good, I like the no sugar added part. We eat hot Italian sausage here, will be interesting to hear how you like your sauce.

Afternoon, but I am still trying to get caffeine on board. How are you RJ?
I'm doing well Cap
the natural calming one?
I use the Calm Drink mix, cherry flavor. It's a magnesium supplement.
Good morning!

Guess what I've been doing this morning? I've been out prepping the coop for our 15 new chicks scheduled to be shipped Sept. 3. That's like next week! The coop and run have been untended totally since two years ago this month, so there's a lot of cleaning up to do out there! Since I have no other birds this time around, they'll brood right in the coop instead of in the run as in years past. Gonna set up MHP right under the outlet and let 'em have full run of the coop after the first couple of days they go out. Until then, I'll block off the area in around the heating pad and their food and water before they get to explore their new digs. We'll follow our usual procedure - a couple of days in the house to watch for shipping stress, make sure they understand the MHP system to get warm, and are eating and drinking. After that, out they go!!

Should be a joke trying to get Fiona to learn to leave them alone. She's my only concern, being a sight hound bred for chasing. Molly (rest her little English Setter soul) trained herself. Fiona ain't that bright. But she'll get a firm reprimand if she goes near them when they're still in the house, and we'll carry that through after they go outside.
:woot Congrats Blooie

I don't put sugar in my marinara, plain sauce or paste. But you don't need it with vine ripe tomatoes. Real tomatoes can have up to 15% sugar, where as store bought top out around 5%. Mine generally hover around 10%. Let us know how it comes out, I'll bet it will be awesome.

so far blooie, its beautiful, found this on you tube, "italian grandma makes canned pasta sauce" its so simple, theres also another one that an italian man makes thats the same but he cooks his outside on a firepit
had about half a cup left after i jarred it , husband enjoyed it with a slice of bakery bread
me, i'm so tired that all i want is to sit down for a half hour or so, started at 7 this morning and even with husbands help with running the tomatoes thru the tomato do hickey, it takes awhile, ended up with 9 jars, hoping they all seal, only half a bushel, tomorrow i have a bushel and a peck to do
forgot to say blooie, if you make this next summer, also plant a good bit of basil to go in the jars

brain dead right now or i would have figured it out:D
i like the taste of it debby, of course i haven't tasted it with the basil added in but i did taste the sauce when it was ready to put in the jars( fresh basil already in the jars)
husband and i don't like the normal italian spices in our sauce so we should love this
so if you make it yourself, grow lots of basil along with the tomatoes

my magnesium is perfect according to blood test but if the calm drink would help, i'm more than game
how do you make your marinara sauce, recipe?

I just got my lifetime National Parks Pass in the mail! So excited to have it...it will give me (and up to 4 adults in my car) into any National Park, National Wildlife Refuge, National Forests, National Grassland or any lands managed by the BLM, and the Army Corps of Engineers for FREE!

I had an annual pass last year when son & I went to Yellowstone and it was a real $$ saver. Looking forward to getting some use out of the lifetime pass!

When I water bath can it, I'll add a touch of rosemary maybe two sprigs for the pot along with a hand full of oregano and basil and a half handful of thyme. When I pressure can I use the recipe here https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/recipe-suggestions-please.1196387/page-4#post-18980902 I much prefer this version... and I've been known to break the rules and make a meat sauce and can it just starting with the cooked sausage and adding the paste to it. When doing a meat sauce I process for about 100 minutes just to be safe.
