The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Morning everyone! Late getting here today...we're judging the photos for the 2020 calendar. Wow, some amazing pictures to go through!

Anyone know when Bob will be back? Miss that guy, hope the family issues aren't too horrible with the death of his uncle.

Nope, no regrets. I was so relieved to find those 2 pictures, just wanted to share.

DH is a handful...he's way too smart for his own good, has no patience, is opinionated and can be hard to deal with. For most people. But him and I fit together like peas & carrots, what I lack, he makes up for and vice versa. It took years for us to find each other and we both feel very grateful that we finally did.

He is still a handsome man but he doesn't think so. I think he was turned off over the years because his looks were all women saw and he's smart enough to get that. When we met I saw his inside more than the outside and he liked that.

So looking is ok, I get it. But he's mine for good as I am his. You're 100% right Sharron, he's the only one that's perfect for me.
:thumbsup yep

Thank you Debby. Those are all excellent points, very wise, and definitely makes me feel better, and I mean, I wouldn’t rush into anything, actually quite happy being single, guys are just trouble ha, but it’s just I eventually want kids and I keep telling myself I’m getting pretty old now. I’m going to be 26 in March.

But for now I’m trying to just focus on myself.

My mom’s family is all coming into town exactly two weeks from today for DB&FSIL’s wedding (two weeks from Saturday) so I’ve been working on cleaning up my rooms and around chickens and garden and getting in shape ha well, actually, haven’t really done very much yet, been trying but it’s coming up so fast, still tons to do, seems the more I do, the more I find to do rather than less, but I’m getting there.

Also going to work on trying to get my dog business started. I might just join Rover for now. It’s easier for now and gets some cash flowing in the meantime rather than bothering with my own insurance and everything. Plus everybody uses and trusts that site. So it’s fine for now.

Initially I didn’t want to because they take like 20% and it was cheaper insuring myself but everyone’s on there and it’s convenient so might as well compete/get my name out there ha

Anyway, also got to try to work on finding a regular job too.

Originally I didn’t really want to and was hoping I could just get my dog business rolling but I think I do need a regular in the meantime. It will help me save faster and also I think I need one for when I get an apartment cause I don’t think dog walking/dog sitting, even if it’s full time/making a lot, will count haha

Speaking of which, also trying to move out, but I want to stay here for a while because minimum wage is soooo much higher here than where I want to move to eventually.

Also want to work on getting certified as a professional dog trainer in case I ever want to go that route, might be more of a career, but I’ve narrowed it down to a few different courses/programs, some of which are quite prestigious/hard to get into, but I need to decide which program I want to try, or if I want to go back to a real school and get a 4 year in Animal Science first which I’ve read some people do too and can help with it. Already have a two year in Behavioral Science. /kinda psych ha

Also been trying to find a therapist to go to cause there’s a lot of stuff I’ve got to work out haha I actually already found a few that I’d like to try but have been putting off calling them for a while now.

So anyway, I’ve got a lot going on right now without having a guy complicate it haha

But still....

If I want to have kids or get a house or whatever... I really got to get going and fast

You do have a lot going on kiddo! 26 is not old though. Igor was in his 30s when we started our family. Our neighbors were in their 30s too, before they met.

The Universe has a way of changing our lives in ways we never thought possible. One day there will be a person who catches your heart. It'll be out of the blue and it won't matter if you're ready or not. You'll work it all out. Just take one step at a time. You're cooking, gardening and taking better care of yourself, that's your first step. Keep taking the next and the next.

Yeah I definitely do! Trying to focus on just a few things at a time though. Like right now I’m trying to focus on the immediate stuff like cleaning up, taking care of myself, and the animals and garden. But even with that, there’s so much to do and so much to think about, that some days I just end up not doing any of it. but I’ve been trying. And I’ve been working a little bit too. I haven’t fully started the business but do have a few clients, mostly family and friends, so I’ve been somewhat doing that. Not a lot but a bit. I’ve finally been starting to do DB&FSIL’s dogs again the last few weeks, even though I’ve barely done it but still, and still have another regular once a week client, although I’ve been working for them a little bit more recently too which is nice. So there’s that. But then I come home from that and sometimes waste the rest of the day

I've been trying to find more motivation but sometimes it’s just not there.:oops:

Anyway, sorry, don’t mean to ramble or get all weird haha

Thank you very much, I appreciate all this, and it definitely makes me feel better. I’m glad it’s not too old ha

And that sounds very sweet! I hope that happens for me one day. :)

But yeah, I’ve definitely been trying! But it comes and it goes. Last week I made a fantastic to do list and got so much done and I felt great and so motivated for like a day or two and wanted to keep it up forever but then that was like a week and a half ago already and I’ve sunken right back. I’ve gotten bits and pieces done here and there but the last few days especially I’ve been bad again and just want to lay around. :/ I haven’t been able to because I’ve had to work most of this week but I’ve wanted to. :barnie:oops:

Idk, I’m trying, but it seems like for every step forward, I take about 10 backwards. :hmm

Sorry, don’t mean to get l negative and weird.

I do like having the garden and chickens and it definitely gets me outside and moving and I want to maintain it/check it/keep it looking nice and take care of everything, but even that I’ve been slacking on a little bit.

Idk.

Guess I just gotta keep trying.

It’s all just a bit overwhelming so I think sometimes I just shut down and freeze rather than moving

Got some seriously freaking HUGE cucumbers today LOL along with some other cool stuff. Today’s harvest.

I can’t possibly catch up. Started to, but keep getting interrupted. Sorry! Did see the photos, Debby....just something about a sailor in uniform that sets my pulse racing!

That old Singer could be worth something or nothing. If you can, check the serial number. It should be on the front flat plate on the left of the needle. Then go to Singer’s website. You can usually type that number in and get an approximate date on date and place of manufacture. I dated all three of my Featherweights, my Singer Treadle, and my super old Singer electric that way. Value with the older machines is relative. It just depends on what someone is willing to pay. My older machines can out-seam my Elena Quilter’s Dream or Katie’s Brother machine hands down. Machines that could zig-zag, even older ones, drop the needle into the fabric angled just a teeny little hair , so the stitches, under a magnifying glass, can be seen to have a slight slant to them. Old machines without zig-zag sew straight as an arrow with no deviation at all. Probably just useless tidbits of information but I think that’s why seams sewn with my older machines are actually stronger.

Some came with electric motors, others were treadle machines retrofitted with the motors later. My electric was manufactured with the motor.

Getting ready for chicks to arrive tomorrow. Kinda dreading it but looking forward to it at the same time. Kendra and Katie will flip out!

Swapped freezers with a Kenny and Jenny today. They had a small chest freezer and we had a big upright. Made no sense - theirs was bulging because it’s so small but there’s four of them to feed, and I had 2 totally empty shelves in mine for me and Ken. Duh!! Ton of flippin’ work though....Kenny, Ken and I did all the emptying, cleaning, swapping, reinstalling and refilling. Fortunately neither freezer was off for very long so we didn’t have to worry about the food defrosting or the freezers needing hours and hours to cool back down. When I got all done that little freezer was so nice and full I felt rich for a few minutes there!

Also the pepper plants on the deck are going crazy!! Took these Sunday and never posted them but they’re still just as crazy! Except now one is hanging over with peppers. Gotta get a cage. They both have tons of peppers on them now. Some pretty big. Which is good because I was starting to think I might have to prune the plant a little bit so it could focus on producing fruit and not leaves. Still might have to. Have been taking a few leaves off here and there cause it is just CRAZY haha

The ones in ground no longer look like scrawny sticks but are doing NOWHERE NEAR as well as these potted ones. Even the same exact kind. The other kinds I have are actually doing better. But nothing is doing as well as these guys.

Putting the pictures in a spoiler below.

Peppers tend to like their roots a little warmer than the temperature in the soil, Kelsey, unlike many container grown plants which suffer when the sides of the pots get hot. If I’m going to grow veggies, the peppers and the Minnesota Midgets are usually in pots while the rest of the veggies are grown in the garden.

That makes a lot of sense!! I never thought of that before. I also figured it was cause the ones on the ground seem to get like chewed up or something? Some holes in leaves and missing pieces etc. and also occasionally some wilted/yellow leaves whereas the potted ones haven’t had any of that and just keep growing. I planted them at the same time (albeit a bit late this year  ) and the in ground ones were scrawny little sticks with no flowers for the longest time while the potted ones immediately took off. I also had some ones I bought as bigger, started plants, but even those aren’t doing as well as these potted ones which got planted slightly later and as little transplants. It’s amazing.

I also thought maybe it was partially cause the potted ones also have potting soil instead of just regular soil? But the peppers are planted on the old chicken run and every other plant has taken off! I really think you might be onto something with the warmer roots thing.

All I know is it’s just not even worth growing peppers in ground anymore I don’t think. My peppers last year did much better in pots too! Although not as well as these. These ones are also special I think because this year I bought some seeds off Seed Savers Exchange instead of just regular old seeds from the store so it’s probably also healthier stock or something maybe. It’s just amazing how green and bushy they are!!
