The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Christofur likes belly rubs but he also likes to grab your arm and hand with his teeth and claws while he purrs away.

There is no such thing as a beautiful fox that close to chickens. Maybe it wasn't paying attention to them at the time be it knows where they are for later.

Your 2 layers so far is 2 more than I have!

Aww! Luna wrapped her little paw around my hand. No claws though! Just draped it over my hand and wouldn’t let me go :lau :love

Eh, idk, I like seeing and watching all the wildlife :oops:

We just had a bunch of deer hanging out the other day.

I do chase the foxes off when they are harassing the chickens though.

But he wasn’t there long at all either so I didn’t have to.

But I also know my pen is secure and predator proof so even if he did try, he couldn’t get in anyway. I keep them locked up when I see predators around. We just had a hawk attack last week so they haven’t been out lately.

I’ll definitely keep an eye out though.

Opie doesn't like anyone to touch his belly, that always sets him off big time! Maybe he's ticklish

Kelsey, I'd sure be concerned about that fox too. They're good at hanging around and waiting for an opportunity. Be careful with your flock!

Haha sometimes Luna doesn’t like it either! And sometimes she protests being held too and loudly meows (protests). She has to be in the right mood. Today she is in a very loving and cuddly mood. :lau

And I’ll definitely watch out but we’ve always had foxes around as long as we’ve lived here being in a wooded area and they usually don’t bother them. They’ve tried but they can’t get in. They do seem to be hanging around a lot more lately without Gator though and I’ve had to chase them off several times. I should probably start chasing them off every time maybe? I don’t want them to get comfortable or think it’s okay sometimes. But I also must admit I kind of like seeing them so idk.

I think I should maybe chase them when they’re in the back though. We have almost 3 acres so they can be in the front nowhere near the chickens!

Probably shouldn’t be in the backyard.

But oddly he ran off on his own shortly after.

I do keep them locked up though when there’s predators hanging around like this. Seen a lot of the hawks and foxes lately. I wouldn’t try free ranging with these guys hanging around but they’re secure in their run. When I do free range though, I’m usually out there watching and only for a couple hours.

Though last week I ran inside for a sec to get something and a hawk had struck! So no more leaving them alone. Thankfully there were injuries from that.

Anyway, I am sure they are all probably hungry and trying to fatten up before winter?

So I won’t let them free range with the foxes about.

But we also have tons of mice, chipmunks, squirrels, bunnies, and rats (tried to get them under control but I think we still have some) so I think maybe they are eating those instead??? Do foxes eat that stuff??

We have a lot of natural prey so as long as they leave the chickens alone :fl

Although they do seem a tad too interested sometimes.

But the weird thing is they’ve never tried to get in. They just run laps around the pen. Maybe cause I don’t give them enough time to do so.

That would be Checkers. Want to lose your hand and half your arm? Try to touch anything but the top of his head, back and tail. And the tail is a "better be paying attention to his body language" thing.

:lau

If Luna is not in the mood, watch out!! But today she is very cuddly and snuggly :lau

Maybe I am too relaxed about this whole thing?

But we can’t shoot them here anyway (too close to neighbors plus no gun) so even if I wanted to get rid of them, I couldn’t.

I should probably start chasing them off every time I see them though.

Don’t want anything to happen.

And I wonder if he was just pretending to be relaxed but secretly checking to see if any were available?

Sometimes they just walk right through the yard too, walking right by the pen without harassing them but making sure to walk by it.

I do think or wonder if maybe they are purposely coming by just in case there was ever an easy meal to be had? Like to see if one was loose or available yet? And if they had been loose if he would not have been sitting there like that??

You read my mind with your last post!

You said you didn't need a big dog but I bet that dog your DB & SIL are "hosting" would make a great property protector. No fox would come around with him there.

But OF COURSE today is the only day of the year they eat candy for breakfast, right??
:thGotta wonder about some parents. Maybe, just MAYBE, candy isn't the best "nutrition" for breakfast. I could see sending 1 piece in their lunch, certainly none of it before lunch.

I better not tell my adult sons about the candy for breakfast kids...they already think I was a pretty strict parent. :lau

I think he’s been adopted already. :hit I think someone’s coming to get him this weekend. We are going to see him now though.
