The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I would love to learn how Native Americans celebrate the Christmas season. With my limited knowledge they seem to be Christians. So be it. True Christians practice "forgiveness."

I would hope in a full year, forgiveness would blank out a grudge.

I am a Jew and in my faith we observe the highest holy day ' THE DAY OF ATONEMENT,' YOM KIPPUR , by fasting and praying from sundown to sundown. I observe this every year since I was 12.

Which means 60 years of doing so. Our fast does not allow for food at any time of the day, or even water. Medications I forgo, those a rabbi can allow for those who have serious health situations.

Above all I am human and do my very best to apologize for wrong doing, even if the offended party refuses to accept it.

You know how kids are they pick on the ones that aren't the same as them. Sigh when in a group people abhor being singled out. I spent most of my career being one of the good ole boys.... Dressing down.... just because I was working in a male dominated field in aerospace. girls stood out then like sore thumbs. then when women broke into the field more it was can you measure up Yah you got in on the quota system...

Education is going to have to go far away from a classroom entirely sort of like Spock when he was growing up. but not so austere.

Ho man I got a new keyboard for Christmas and I LOVE it but its taking some getting used to...

sorry I had my squirrel moment.

What kinda things have you engineered? :)

Unfortunately not the way mom cooks.... Bwhahahah Oh I have learned bunches cooking making sauces and gravy. Mom was stunned when she offered to help me with the gravy a couple of years back... "Naw mom I got it" O my gawd she was amazed No lumps No flour taste Wait... No milk either.... Heh heh heh ... How did you do that.

I added milk because they expected it but I had chicken broth ready. to mix in... if it needed it.

Though I do have trouble with baking and have to resort to a mix. I dont eat bread often enough to make my own and it will only be for just me eventually... I dont eat sweets either... unless its store bought.

I sometimes put too much seasoning on things... I try to be careful with salt but it just doesnt work every time. moving to sea salt has helped... you can see it so you dont over salt.

That's good that you are making things your self. And not burning them!! I like making chicken soup with only ingredients that I have grown. Chicken \ and. Stuff from the garden boil it all day :p. I haven't made bread in a long time....:hmm

I am a horrible teacher... though home schooling was not an option. I tried to help him with his homework when he puzzled over stuff but DANG the handouts were unreadable and made no freaking sense. I puzzled over it and let him do it the way he was taught. Then explained to him there are Many Many different ways to do math and not to be discouraged. They were teaching freaking Algebra in the second grade. SMH... Learn to add and subtract multiply and divide... for pete sakes...

Same went with writing... Practice practice practice pages and pages of letters and words and capitals and upper case lower case.... And Script... or Handwriting... He got through school making characatures with his letters... He doesnt Know how to read or write Script... SMH I guess they expect people to type every thing or text... Voice recognition software...

Hes thirty years old for petes sake... His Printing is getting more legible more readable.

Ok rants over... Being a single parent was a blessing in disguise In some ways he had a Grandpa and a Great Grandpa to pal around with and a Grandma and a Great Grandma for day care. and they doted over him. His father was a non sequeter. Called me occasionally when he was drunk and told me he was going to he11 because of DS. And that I should get married for his sake...

The calls got fewer and fewer hes never seen his son except one picture I shared of him wearing a toy tool kit he had sent for his birhtday

I hate all the different ways of math .. I can't even explain how they work . It just does I tell the kids. I'm not a math teacher....... :he I don't want to be either. Leave it up to the wife she's really good at it:rolleyes:. I don't drink I will never take my first sip . There has been to many relationships and family's broken up because of it. Some one I know has ruined his health with drugs and alcohol. Now he has cancer and his arm and eye are gone. His wife and kids were mostly left to themselves. His wife had to home school 5 kids and live off of what little he made. Luckily she had a rich brother who bought her 5acres and a house right near her rich brothers house. So that's great:D he was a farmer too. So he owned lots of acres. Thank God for generous people! Wow a great grandfather and a great grandmother and grandma and grandpa. That's a blessing :thumbsup I wish I still had my great grandfather I never got to speak with him but I have heard he could build a house from the foundation up and with out any help. Every now and then my dad will pont out a random house that he built. They are all over a hundred years old that just makes it cooler!!

I was a manufacturing engineer... I would go through a product and stream line the manufacturing proces... Sometimes redesigning the whole thing in the process. I worked in Telecommunications then. Qualcom is a big company here in San Diego. The Main money maker for them is a device that goes on Tractor Trailers and Trucks... Give them point accurate within a couple of feet through GPS. There was a keyboard in the truck that allowed the trucker to text the office or talk to family. Though that I am sure has been deleted because most truckers have cell phones.

I designed test equipment for installation in a Minivan so they could test their accuracies. I also worked as a team member for building the 777 the first fly by wire jet for commercial use. We designed assembly jigs and work platforms.

Again as a team member I designed work platforms for The C-17. Short runway Cargo plane... you could drive a semi truck into its belly and take off from a short runway like where crop dusters land. The whole under carriage was designed as a lifting body... I also designed the work platforms for the wing join part of the plane. The wings were built as mirror images of each other and built simultaneously fastened to gether with a holding jig so they could use a crane to move them to the next station.

There were twelve stations Building wings... The hanger itself presented a problem because it was so big that there was rain in it... the floor had a slope of one inch in twelve feet. for water drainage. Each platform was identical except for the length of the legs for support. I wound up disagreeing with the checker when he red-lined my drawings. I explained the error of his ways... He hired me right there for his start up Tool and die company.

And so it went for him I designed Electron beam weld chambers for repairing Jet engine blades. I learned a lot from the engineer on that project... Graduate of the University of Mines and he was brilliant.. Funny and couldn't design his way out of a paper bag. BUT He knew Metals inside and out and Chemistry... It was a pleasure to work on his projects.

Aerospace moved out of San Diego thats when I jumped to other industries. I was for the most part a contract employee. Worked three months then got hired direct... worked direct for a couple of years and lay offs. I think I have hit that revolving door about seven times over the years. The last one was a deal breaker... Tired of it all.
