Interesting trip to the park. There was a runner there with 4 dogs off leash. She got off the main path into the soccer fields, but one dog thought it was a good idea to get aggressive towards the Princess and then came towards me. As the small dog got near me a large lab/chessy cross joined it and charged at me. I stood still and used my BIG voice, and they stopped a short distance from me. I will be carrying a heavy cane next time we go to the park. Several years ago a pair of staffordshire/pitt crosses came at me in the same park. I assured the owner that she had better control them - I had my cane at that time. Why do some think the rules don't apply to them ?
That's terrible! I've had to use my big voice on a straying dog before - it wasn't interested in me - it was going to have a piece of our dog. Scary!
Here there has been an increase in dog attacks because suddenly everyone is out walking their dogs at all hours (in the city at least).
A very good animal trainer here explained that dogs are picking up on their owners stress and are confused by the change in routine and the fact that people are now avoiding each other, so it automatically makes them more protective. So keeping them on a leash (and not one of those retractable ones) is your best way of avoiding a bad situation.
