Well I dunno why the H anyone do that to be honest. That's all we can think of. Hubs used his screw gun and tried a socket wrench with a screw bit and they won't come out; he broke one of the plates trying. We're going to replace the box and everything there, there are 4 switches and only one light. This is on a wall that used to go out to a patio that someone enclosed and there used to be some outdoor lighting, but 3 switches now do nothing. It's the same with an outlet on that wall and the switches on the opposite wall too. Believe me, an idiot or two owned this house before we did.
 
I think you are going to need to have at least a double box there with the one switch just so you can cap off the 3 hot wires that are no longer feeding something. You can put a single cap on the grounds and one on the commons but I think the hots each need to have their own cap. .... I guess that would be IF there isn't a single feed wire for all 4 original lights which is possible.

I'll leave that up to Igor. Electrical work is not in my realm.
