The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

You and Sue had a lot going on this year. Next year the garden will do better!

Are you going to pickle the cukes?
yes. I have a sink full already Hoping to do that this weekend. I'm going to have a conversation with the boss tomorrow or Friday... I need to start taking some time off during the week to get things done.

:frow Good afternoon Rene, I hope you've had a good day. Canning is hard work but well worth the effort. Given the horn worms here, I need to buy tomatoes locally. So I need to find a source. I need to put up at least a couple bushels. I'm out of whole tomatoes, diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Geeze, it's amazing what 4 years without excess tomatoes will do to you. Have a great trip and enjoy yourselves.
It's a mess. Got it pretty well cleaned up last weekend, but too much neglect. My tomatoes are trying to recover from the horn worms, but I doubt I'm going to get much fruit this year. Jalapenos are doing well. Sweet bell peppers maybe. Squash, well lots. Cucumbers have a lot of blossoms, so maybe I'll get some good ones out of the next batch. Green beans have a lot of flowers so I'll likely get at least one more batch out of them. I need to finish clearing the last two beds and maybe get some winter kale in. Broccoli and cabbage all died, overcome with weeds.
:frow Good morning Bob! Thank you, it was a very nice day! Canning is a lot of work, sounds like you know from experience. :) We haven't had to much trouble with hornworms, but we usually have a problem with squash beetles, but not this year for some reason. I hope you get more from your garden than you are thinking. We bit the bullet this year & put down weed barrier & drip tape in our garden...it's amazing. If I was home I'd share a current picture of the garden. Have a good day!
