The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Allergies are no fun! I'm glad that you were able to get some more rest. I have a hard time remembering to take meds too!

I love every minute with him, even when he's grumpy, which he was this morning! I think his tummy was bothering him. :( We got through it & he is now sleeping peacefully for his first nap of the day! 💞

Is he getting close to that time when a tooth or two starts to break through?

He's 5 months, mine were 8 months when they got their teeth, but they start forming way before they poke through...so I do think that's part of it! He was a gassy little guy this morning...lol, I think that was most of what was going on!

That is good to hear!

A bunch of fires burned together here and is now called the August complex fire. It is at 776,000 acres and getting bigger. As the largest fire ever in California, It will burn until it rains...likely in November.

I suspect we will have smokey days for quite some time here but hopefully not as bad as it is now
Good morning Ron :frow Have a great Friday and stay safe.

Here I am with my 2nd good mornings of the day! :frow

Ron, I've been reading some of the news stories about the fire...scary stuff!

So glad your feeling better after some sleep, sorry about your allergies, they are no fun :( I'm much better now about taking my medicine because I keep it all together, even my vitamins.

We had little patches of frost this morning! It's toasty inside by the fire though. DH ventured out to let the chickens out for me but I must go and give them some breakfast. At least the sun is shining.

It's early days yet but these partridge araucana chicks (just over 2 weeks old now) are feathering in fast and all but one look to have the start of peachy/girly chests. It's the boys I need - isn't that always the way?! A partridge roo crossed with birchen hens is supposed to be the best for creating brown reds but I might be trying it the other way around.

The only one that looks darker in the chest is the littlest one who has a bit of a waddle to its walk. I'd decided early on that wasn't going to be a candidate for breeding but it's super sweet though. The birchens and splash are feathering in much slower - they barely have the start of tails.

The 12 eggs I got in the hopes of a few more birchens are this time around doing really well. At this point in time (almost day 14) 10 are still going strong. I'm kinda hoping they don't all hatch as that's a lot of babies on top of the other 12. :th

I sure hope those awful fires can at least be contained to some extent. I read about a little calf that must've been born just before the fire swept through the field - miraculously it survived. It's nice to read stories like that amid all the destruction.

Hi Jae! I hope you get more roos & fewer hens! That will definitely be a lot of babies...good luck with your hatch!
Thank you for sharing the story about the calf...it's uplifting to have good news in the midst of tragedy! 💞

:frow Good morning Jae, have a great day. I rarely get to wish that for you so it's a real treat. My work day ended about an hour ago... Finally off at a respectable time on Friday.

My grandkids started back to school a couple of weeks ago, so naturally two of them have a runny nose. The school called my DD and had her come pick all four kids up. They told her she has to either get a covid test done, or quarantine them at home for 14 days. The clinic that does the testing can't fit them in until the 28'th, so she's just gonna quarantine them. That means I don't get to have them until their 14 days are up. 😩
