The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

It starts with the leaves but will generally kill the entire plant by late august.

Just because I'm a little geeky about tomatoes... Fun fact, Those you buy at the store are picked green at about 5% sugar. Real vine ripe tomatoes can exceed 15% sugar, but are generally in the 10%-15% range.
I would not call you geeky. I love that you are knowledgeable! Weird how they are so sweet this year. I assumed it was because we were in a drought.

Here are some of my pots back on 7/21. Most of the rest are in bags.

We had so much rain here the ground has sunk low spots in it . I thought it was my imagination until I talked to a friend that lives near by . My garden is done for the year gave bags of tomatoes away one to a neighbor and she shows up the next day with three tubs of homemade salsa that was the best I ever had . I don't know what she puts in it but there's no way you could buy salsa that good anywhere on this planet . It has a mild heat to it but does not bother your digestion system . My gosh we had chips smothered in cheese with that on them I was in heaven . People never stop amazing me with their kindness . we took two bags of cucumbers to Discount Drug Mart , where my wife use to work before her cancer hit and gave them to the employees . Susie put a sign on them free cucumbers and set them in the lunch room before we were finished shopping they were all gone . Voles hit during the non stop rain and attacked the garden they climbed 4" tomato plants and ate holes from the top down ate a lot of winter squash and scores of cucumbers all in two nights . We had a great garden gone now . Now I plant radish , by October they will be as big as golf balls . :drool:th

That's too bad about your garden Mark. Very nice of you to share what you harvested! The salsa sounds amazing.

I know she is from California so she might have learned there , not a clue what she puts in it I just can't figure it out what could give it a little heat but not effect with ones digestion .

Mark I'd love a good salsa recipe I need two more pounds of tomatoes to make salsa.
