The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Barred Hollands I lost my turkeys shortly after Sue came home from the hospital. Something got into the greenhouse and massacred everything.

:frow Good morning Janie, have a great day

Hi Sue! I hope you had a good walk today.
:frow Good evening everyone I hope you all have a good weekend
Hi Marie! A good weekend to you also!
Taking a break. All this past fall the chicken coop served as the dog kennel. We’d even partially disassembled the hoop run. (Man, we built that thing to last through eons!) Suddenly here we are, putting it all back together for the chicks that will arrive next week. It’s actually really warm out there right now but one of those days where you put on a light jacket, then start working and get too warm, then get chilled when you stop working.

But the enclosure is set up, Mama Heating Pad is set up and running perfectly, the vertical nipples are installed in the temporary waterer, and I’m ready to put pine shavings down. Yes, I know. I hate pine shavings for litter. But this is not exactly the time of year for abundant fall leaves. ;) We only ordered 8 chicks (added one to our order yesterday). There‘s a feed store in Cody and Ken just learned that they have Brahma chicks, which were not available from the hatchery when I ordered. Now I’m having to keep him busy so he doesn’t end up going to get a couple. In our family he’s the one who can’t resist chicks and I’m the one who plans exactly what I want.
Oh please, Blooie, let Ken have some brahmas. They are so sweet!

Oh, I know! We missed Tank and Tank 2 when we rehomed them. When we started putting our order together this time, he kept looking over my shoulder for a Tank 3. There weren’t any Brahmas, except bantam Buffs. Tank used to sit on Kendra’s lap when we took her outside in her wheelchair and Kendra would give her rides.

Well now that I know the story, you just have to run out and get a Tank 3 and 4! It will be a nice mothers day surprise for the hubby.

When do your chicks arrive Blooie?

I agree with @janiedoe you need a couple of the Brahma's! If you don't want them for Mother's Day, let Ken get them for his Father's Day present. :D

A very good day thanks Debby :)

How has your day been?

It's been an emotional morning here. While packing up some stuff for the move I found a large batch of cards and letters I had squirreled away. They were from people near and dear to my heart, most of which have now passed away. It got to me to go through them, but I have to remember how lucky I have been to have had such wonderful people in my life.

That's probably more than you wanted to know!

My chicks arrive next Thursday. At least the ones I ordered will. <sigh> Yes, ladies, you guessed it. We’re on our way to Bomgaard’s to pick up 3 Brahma chicks - A Light, a Dark, and a Buff. As he said, “As long as we’re already set up.” Somebody help me….
