His work day starts around 4am. And he's used to getting only about 5 hrs of sleep so if he falls asleep early (like from watching tv), he gets up extra early.

I understand that. I worked nights for 12 years then started working for myself, which meant being up by 3:30. I never needed to much sleep until I stopped working. Now I fall asleep sitting up.

Happy birthday to your eldest, IM!
My youngest just turned 30, last month. I couldn't forget because June and July are our big birthday months. (And I have an alarm set for each birthday. )
He, his wife, and the granddogs are visiting the end of this month. It will be great to see them.
And in other news, I hear we are getting another grandchild sometime next year...no specifics yet for #12. It's supposed to be a secret but someone accidentally blabbed.
I love my babies. I wish they all lived closer.
