What did you do to stop them from eating their eggs?I just started getting eggs after too many months of buying eggs. They started eating their eggs last fall! So I've been caring for these pets since before winter and jjust recently started getting eggs again![]()
And then it comes here!It sounds like we have significant snow moving in Tuesday night through Thursday morning. We could get anywhere between 12-19 inches.
I understand the travel limit thing but other than twice yearly cleaning out the coop bedding, I really don't spend much time on them at all. Morning - open the barn, feed and water them, check for eggs. Afternoon - feed and water them, check for eggs. Evening, make sure they are all in the coop, check for eggs and close up the barn.I don't know if I'd have them again, if I didn't have these. I enjoy them, but they do take up a lot of my time, and limit my travels.
Daisy started that last summer, I don't know why. She's now 3.5 years old. I hoped she would forget about that when everyone started their moult and stopped laying for a few months. But some of them uncharacteristically started up again mid last month. She was good for about a week then went back to snacking. They started eating their eggs last fall!
I put her in her own personal space. Doesn't stop her from eating her own eggs but at least she can't get to those laid by others. I tried filling a shell with mustard and putting it in with her, she tossed it out of the nest box after trying it and continued to eat her own eggs. I put her back in with the flock in the fall, hopeful as stated above. What did you do to stop them from eating their eggs?
Have you had a lot of snow this year? It’s already blowing and drifting on the roads. It’s 34* so it’s sticking to the highway too.And then it comes here!
Probably not that range but could easily be half that.

I posted a healthy White rock hen on the Front Porch forum,. Oddly no one is interested in a free egg eating layer.
