The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

My parents had 2 enormous chest freezers forever. After dad passed away and DH and I were getting the house ready for mom to sell in 2015, those chest freezers were packed full. We had to excavate layers and layers of frozen items. By the time we got to the bottom, we were tossing green beans from dad's garden that were over 30 years old. And those freezers were running all that time.

I have a chest freezer that I bought in 96. It still works perfectly, but I will admit I'm nervous every time I open it. 🫣
We have a beast of a freezer I would say is from the 60’s. It’s still running good. We have a whole cow coming in about mid November. I’m trying to get the freezer emptied out so I can wash it. I don’t know if I should shut it off for fear it won’t work again. We bought a new upright last year. I’d hate to have to buy another one.

I don't think I'd even whisper about shutting that old one off...I think they can smell fear.

My maytag washer lasted less than 6 years. I want to know what happened to that poor old bored repairman.
Our 6 year old refrigerator is still running okay but the ice maker in the door doesn't work any longer and the inside one freezes up and has to be thawed with a hair dryer ever couple of months.
it's a shame they are so much more expensive and yet they don't last.
Our fridge is about 10 years old. We’ve had good luck with the ice maker. I hope it continues to work good.

Semi unrelated. My grandfather kept every thing in his chest freezer. Their house burned once so he was paranoid. He kept a change of clothes for he and my grandmother, a change of shoes each, their wallets, a shotgun, and important papers. It was huge freezer, otherwise they wouldn't have had room for food.
I have a neighbor who does the exact same thing. She also keeps a stash of emergency money in there. She said if anyone breaks into her house she doubts they'd dig around the freezer looking for treasure. I told her that with the price of meat around here they just might 🤔

Well after much ado about nothing I'm done wrangling chickens for the day. One boy has a limp and was a pain that a pill can't fix. He has a limp but we can't find anything on the surface that is wrong with a foot or leg. I'm gonna give him a B Complex and keep an eye on him. He free ranges from sun up to sundown. Thinks he is his on little man. He's not reading about deep freezes over my shoulder like his mom would.
