The Nice Rooster/Cockerel Thread

I want a roo so bad 😭
They can be a joy for sure, if you get the right one!

This is Charlie, he's a bit of a butthead but only when the hens are watching 😂. Once he's out of their sight, he melts in my arms like butter. He's a very chatty little guy and will carry on a little clucking commentary on everything that catches his attention, which is constantly everything within a ten foot radius.

Awww, he does not want to be embarrassed in front of the hens, LOL.

Wow, he is gorgeous! ❤️ I am glad he's a sweet boy, I love the friendly guys!! :love
He sure is pretty! He inherited his mom's dark burgundy feathers and his dad's fiery orange highlights. Poor boy also inherited his mom's short, stubby tail, but it makes him look more cute, LOL. Ruby is really sweet to humans, and I have a harness, diaper and leash for her whenever I take her places. Jasper is very gentle to his hens, he only has Ruby and Quartz but never overbreeds them or anything like that-but the downside to him is that he hates humans attacks them. Odie kind of got a mix-up of those personalities. He loves humans but he is very aggressive to the hens! Just the opposite of his dad . . .

This is Rettle (2 yrs), Porcelain d’Anvers. He’s very insistant with trying to get me to hold him or sit on my lap. If I don’t pick him up right away, he circles around me, and pulls at my clothes, until I finally pick him up. Then he falls asleep in my arms. I love this sweet little guy a lot. ❤️

It sounds like he loves having attention!

Whether your rooster/cockerel is very friendly to humans, is exceptionally nice to hens, or even has a dog/other animal they like to hang out with, this is the thread that you can post them in!

This is Odie, a six-month-old cockerel I hatched myself. His dam is a Rhode Island Red Bantam, Ruby, and his sire is an Old English Game Bantam/Dutch Bantam hybrid, Jasper. When he was a chick, his name was originally Odelia, but he was quick to grow up and show his male features, so his name changed to Odie. While Odie is aggressive to females and therefore cannot live with them, I was hoping for a cockerel who loves me, and that is just what Odie is. He enjoys being with humans, especially me, and even comes inside the house. Odie always wants to make sure he is taking care of me first and food-clucks for me when he finds a tasty treat, and will defend me from any other male chicken that gets too close to me.

This is my cockerel Ruben. He's not the nicest to other animals but he's super nice to us and likes to jump up and perch on my shoulder ❤️🐔

This is my other roo named Danny DiVitdo. He's really sweet and loves his buddy Smokey but kinda skittish around people. To bad we can't keep him 🫤. It's because at night he leaves and sleeps in trees. He lead a hen out with him one night and she got eaten by something. So he needs to go somewhere that's closed in so he can't escape.

We've been really lucky with our roos this far and they have all been amazing snuggle buddies...

This is Arslan, (Silver Laced Wyandotte) aka puddle man, our alpha Rooster:
He spent nights inside for about a year until our neighbors gave up reporting us to the township, so he has lovely inside manners. He also has to act tough around his ladies, but is a total cuddle bug once he's out of their sight.

maybe he can be retrained/convinced to sleep close to home?

And this is Willow. (Light Brahma) We lost him several months back when we gave him to a local farm. Figured he'd rather have his own flock of ladies instead of playing second fiddle. Unfortunately, he died 2 weeks later.

He was the ultimate cuddle bug. He even snuggled with my infant son. He will be sorely missed.

This is Thors. He's a 5 month old Jersey Giant. He's super duper sweet, although the hormones are in full swing right now, so we're waiting to see how he'll settle. He likes to sit on my lap while I work at the computer.
