The Nice Rooster/Cockerel Thread

Mr Dumpling, he's a very sweet boy and he's still working out his hormones because he's just about six months now, but he always comes running when I go outside. And he allows cuddles! :love

maybe he can be retrained/convinced to sleep close to home?
I don't know I hope. He was our neighbors but since he has this habit our neighbor didn't want him anymore. So we took him. The problem is we live right next to a national forest with tuns of predators. We've been having to trap him every night but some nights we can't get him I just don't want him to die like the poor hen did.

We also have the "bubbies", but they're too little yet to know what their personalities will be. But their cuddly for the moment!
(One SLW barred rock cross(Noah), and two Brahma rir crosses(Nila and Noli)). I don't have any good recent pictures of them, but I'll grab one and post soon.

I snapped a picture of the bubbies here too show you too. They're so cute! (They are 3 months old)

This is my other roo named Danny DiVitdo. He's really sweet and loves his buddy Smokey but kinda skittish around people. To bad we can't keep him 🫤. It's because at night he leaves and sleeps in trees. He lead a hen out with him one night and she got eaten by something. So he needs to go somewhere that's closed in so he can't escape.
He sounds really nice! That is sad that you cannot keep him. Sorry for your loss with the hen!

We've been really lucky with our roos this far and they have all been amazing snuggle buddies...

This is Arslan, (Silver Laced Wyandotte) aka puddle man, our alpha Rooster:
He spent nights inside for about a year until our neighbors gave up reporting us to the township, so he has lovely inside manners. He also has to act tough around his ladies, but is a total cuddle bug once he's out of their sight.
Awww! He is so cute!

And this is Willow. (Light Brahma) We lost him several months back when we gave him to a local farm. Figured he'd rather have his own flock of ladies instead of playing second fiddle. Unfortunately, he died 2 weeks later.

He was the ultimate cuddle bug. He even snuggled with my infant son. He will be sorely missed.
Oh no! I have seen Willow before and did not know he died. Sorry for your loss! Snuggling with an infant proves that he was a really awesome rooster.

This is Thors. He's a 5 month old Jersey Giant. He's super duper sweet, although the hormones are in full swing right now, so we're waiting to see how he'll settle. He likes to sit on my lap while I work at the computer.
Thors is really pretty! I have had luck with Odie so far (besides the hen aggression) so Thors will probably be good.

This is Effie.. He's a Polish top hat cockerel (6 months). He's not much of a cuddle bug... Might be because he has trouble seeing you coming, but he is so sweet to the girls. Here you can see him hanging out with my son.
Polish tend to be slightly because they cannot see well like you said. I believe that, if they had no crest blocking their vision, they would be less flighty. Make sure to trim his crest so he can see better.

I have one little cockerel who is around 21 weeks now! He is quite afraid of me but is an absolute darling when being held. I often cuddle him at night as I can easily grab him. He is super gentle with his hens and almost no scuffles have occurred. He is an Appenzeller Spitzhauben, but not very standard haha. I love his messy punk hairdo. His crow sounds like one of those rubber screaming chickens 😂

Here is Uncle Baby, he is great with his hens so far and they all have accepted him. He isn't aggressive but he is always looking after each hen, especially when I try to get them out of my garden beds he will run over and yell at me to stop yelling at the hen haha. He is kinda shy and doesn't like being picked up, although he is pretty good once you got em.

Is he a mix? I’ve never seen a silkie with a single comb. Is that common?

He would be a mix. Silkies have walnut combs.
