Can you not have roosters or just choose not to?

Poor boy, that must have hurt! He's lucky to have youCompletely at home care. Stopping the bleeding was the biggest and hardest thing and honestly all I did. After that was just making sure he was eating, which at first he could not cause it was too sore and he risked causing it to bleed again. It's grown back now. This is what it looked like and him back in November, interestingly those picture are almost exactly a year apart!

I don't have any roos because of the risk of them being mean/"bad", and I wouldn't want to cull them if they were "bad" - that would go against the purpose of Barnette's Chicken Sanctuary. So if I got a mean rooster that couldn't live with my hens, I would have to give him his own space, and currently don't have the time/resources/etc to do that.Aw thanks! Honestly I am VERY partial to roostersOf course I have a few hens that have and do stand out to me, but my boys... they're just special

Cockerels get a chance with me. It makes perfect sense to me that they'd "play up" at they grow and mature. Lief Jr. was a naughty naughty boy when he was younger, he gives me zero trouble now and is a beautiful boy. His SISTER actually continued giving me trouble after he grew out of itI won't keep a cockerel/rooster if they are mean. Ive never had a mean one thankfully. Besides one of the Russian orloff who got a bit mean before leaving but i think it was age. And i dont think i could kill a pet so i rehome them. So far every one has gone to a good home and i get updates about them. One of the black copper maran roosters i had is being used for a breeding program actually he is gorgeous.
Ill always give a second chance. But if they do attack they do go. I have that rule for all of my chickens. Ive never had one thankfully.Cockerels get a chance with me. I just need to get rid of all the pictures that aren't "good".
