The Not So Secret Society of Chicken Keepers

I got sixteen eggs set!

Let's do some chicken updates.
I unfortunately ended up losing my little chick, I managed to keep him alive almost a whole week I think it was but he crashed and there was nothing I could do...
I did end up getting two other chicks around that time. A little Barnie and a (supposed) EE, not really your usual looking EE but then again I've only ever had two of them 😅

I guess I’ll do an update as well…my oldest hen, Peeper, just turned eight years old, and a few of the others are seven 🥹 I’m starting to get eggs, which is exciting, mostly from the older hens; my young Welsummers are slacking.

I just got some chicks on Wednesday, after standing in line for almost two hours…Some Delawares, Light Brahma, New Hampshire red, and a brown Leghorn, named Poppy because we’re for sure keeping her. Half of them are for the neighbor, but he doesn’t want a Leghorn. So anyway, here’s a few photos…

This thread has been so quiet 🥹 Out of the babies I got, we kept six, one of whom is a gorgeous Brahma cockerel, named Soup. He needs to stop being so sweet, or else he’ll never live up to his name :barnie I don’t have the hens or the room to keep a second roo, unfortunately. We kept three Delaware pullets, Loretta, Olive, and Gabby; one Brahma pullet, Betty; a Leghorn, Poppy; and Soup. Anyways, here are some cute growing up photos of the babies :)

Olive, maybe?

Not sure how old Soup was in this photo…4 weeks maybe? I started suspecting he was a boy pretty quick 😅
IMG_8205.jpeg

Yep, definitely a boy…

All the babies!

I can’t tell the littles apart in photos anymore, they’ve changed so much. So this could be anyone, but I’m guessing it’s Olive, cause she’s naughty and would sit on the waterer.
IMG_8360.jpeg

I *think* this is Gabby.
IMG_8437.jpeg

And this is Betty the teeny tiny Brahma. She’s smaller than all the Delawares :p

Soup all grown up.

Pretty Poppy.

Little Betty again.

I’m almost regretting getting more chickens, because the status quo was so calm in the house until I added the pullets…I love them though, they’re all so sweet and friendly.
