I would like to join, though I have to admit that I cant read all that green writing in the first post. I have to agree that it's not so much a matter of being "green" as it is trying to get back to a simpler, more economical time & learning to be less reliant on the big power companies, etc.
Here's my contribution to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle:
-I save gallon jugs to refill with drinking water & reuse the liter bottles to refill with water (from the sink) on the go
-Save my litre soda bottles to refill when I buy soda by the 2 litre
-Don't use heat unless the temps get below about 60 and even then I put on my footy pjs & use the heating blanket first.
-When the a/c is used, the temp is kept at about 80-82, but it may only be used about 6 months of the year--less if I can
-I have re-usable grocery bags & use them as much as I can; when I forget & get plastic bags, those are reused for small garbage cans, outer wrapping on some of the foods that go in the freezer--like if I split a pkg of meat in 1/2.
-I use old (clean) socks to dust with or do major cleaning, rather than using sponges
-I tend to buy used clothing (jeans & t's)
-I buy used furniture
-I send my junk mail back to the sender when they include postage paid envelopes
-Pay bills on line to generate less paper waste
-I recycle plastic
-Reuse newspaper from other people (I don't have or buy newspapers--I read them on line)
-Use strip outlets to turn off a large percentage of electrical items; unplug others
-ALWAYS wash laundry in cold water
-Hot water heater set at 120 degrees
-Hand wash dishes & rinse in a clean sink with water in it--no water left running (not even while brushing my teeth)
-Make my own laundry detergent
-Use vinegar & peroxide for a lot of cleaning
-Lights don't get used in the day time; kitchen has a nice skylight, as does the master bath
-All my leftovers are fed to the chickens (sometimes the goats, depending on what it is) & they free range as well
-I plant some fruits & veggies so I don't have to buy them at the store
-I raise chickens for meat & eggs
-My goats are going to be for milk & I'm thinking about meat goats as well
-I have miniature cattle that will be for meat (one day)
-I take 10 minute showers (is that good for a woman?) & only wash my hair twice per week unless I really get down & dirty; it's rinsed every day
-Most of the lights in the house are cfl, but I get migraines & flourescent lighting is one of my triggers, so my bedroom is the only one with incandescent

That looks like a lot, but I know it really isn't, because I'm only one person. I'm sure there are more things, but this is the bulk of it.
I'm always looking for energy efficient ways to live. My next project is to get a timer for the hot water heater.
