Hardly a bird for a beginner. These guys are very flighty and you should have lots of pen space for them so when you enter they can get as far away from you as possible, and lots of cover for them to hide in.They are very beautiful birds, but all of them are crazy.

There is a great website called: http://www.gbwf.org/ it will have most of the information you are looking for. As for coppers being aggressive, I have found the Long-tailed Pheasants to be aggressive, and wouldn't mix my elliots, or reeves with other birds.
coopers males can be aggersive to the hens most people keep them seperate until the hen as laid afew eggs then they are more compatable i have never had these before but was thinking of it afew years ago and did alot of research on them and decided they are not for me. tony is right they are not for begginers neither are trags or imps, but i dont expect you to listen now stick to goldens and silvers amherst for a few years then get swinhoe, reeves maybe eilliot then move to to trags, imps and maybe coopers but for now it would be foolish for u to get them now.
I do have one more question that I searched and didn't find an answer. We have a young (1 yr. old) red golden male that used to be SOO sweet, now he hisses at EVERYTHING? Why is that? My friend LOVES him and was holding him and "PLAYING" with him for more than half a day, so... could that be why he has changed?
probably part of his mating dance they make a very distict hiss when courting but he morethan likly dont care to be handled either we keep tellin u over and over u cant just hold pheasants u are going to hurt or kill them and u dont seem to care what we say, their is a wealth of knowledge on here that u can learn from with many years of knowledge and each has their own way that works, if we all keep saying you dont need to keep catchin and handling your pheasant dont u stop and think that if we all agree on that. it might be true or does it go over yourhead. i dont want to be rude but i feel sorry for your birds who are stressed out daily from being caught and held daily and i hate for u to loose your birds from somthing that could be prevented from u not handling them. please stop holding them
