The Old Folks Home

I meant to share one thing earlier but it slipped my mind (dang you CRS!) I got the sweetest call last night. DD's boyfriend called me to ask mine and DH's (he is her step-dad but I think she is planning on having him walk her down the aisle when the time comes) blessing to ask her to marry him. I have met him a couple of times and a nicer SIL I don't think I could ask for. He is planning on proposing to her next week in the barn (the boy knows my daughter and believe me, this is romantic) when they come up here for a couple of days. Now I just have to remember to not blow the surprise if I talk to her on the phone before then. I don't know how many times I almost posted something about it on FB today. Doh!

Now you know how I feel about marriage, but....

Sounds like this guy has his act together.

I think Wisher is trying to avoid having to wade through the kind of posts that go like, "OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there's this guy in my class and hez rilly cute and i think that sumday he might thik about liking me wut do i do?????????????????" JKJKJKJK

Oh I love cogent thoughts and grammar. I'm starting to feel my brain atrophy up here a bit... sometimes it seems like I am the only person in this state that knows that you're is a word.

And for adult conversation, I don't have much to add to the conversation today. I would like to clarify that I think we all miss the fun and camaraderie of the hatch-a-long chats, and I think Wisher was attempting to mimic that here, not offend anyone. I have to admit that while I'm still "young" (ish) I have no idea what most kids are talking about (and I like it). Unfortunately a lot of "immature" talk and attitude tends to keep me away from most social threads. So I'm pleased as punch to have this thread to talk to my peeps.

Here's my adult conversation attempt: I seriously had to ask employees today who cut their toenails (a full set) and left them on another employees desk today... You know, I didn't have kids on purpose, but being a manager sometimes I feel like I ended up with about 12 adult children. I also bought my CCW today - finally settled on a Ruger LCP, can't wait to go out and shoot some targets with it. The goats love Tostitos and screaming like they're being tortured the second I'm not loving on them. The wether is absolutely smitten with me, and I was worried I wouldn't like him. He's been laying his head against me as I pet him, and when I stop he stares at me with his little goaty eyes. It has only been 48 hours but I'm pretty sure I need to put my friend on notice that he's not getting his goats back in 2 years as originally planned.

No way! You do not sound like a fuddy duddy. I was just having some fun with my post (gall bladder and all). I understand what you were trying to say.

P.S. LOL! OMG! ROFL! TTYL!!!!

I somehow managed to come across as some old fuddy duddy, I guess. I know those of you that "know" me from other threads know better, right? I just found that all of my favorite threads, and favorite people that were there, quit being active and I missed them!

I have nothing against children, I have a few of my own and they come in handy sometimes....... I think everyone should own at least one.......

Quote: Wisher, they have been unofficially engaged for a little while but I think the fact that he is going to do it next week here in Utah will be a total surprise as long as I don't blow it.
Quote: I can neither confirm, nor deny any questions about what they may or may not call me. (Maybe I spent too many years in military intelligence?

He is a super nice guy, great work ethic, his family really likes her already and I am super happy for her. I know that no one knows what the future holds but it looks pretty bright for the two of them.

I so second this thought. Very cool to have a thread to catch up with each other.

Seriously SCG, somebody did this?

X like a bajillion. I know we all got to trim nails from time to time but I honestly wouldn't be caught dead doing this at work or even at home in front of company. I don't even like doing this in my own living room in front of DH. Remind me not to go to your pharmacy

You know, it is pretty hard to gross me out, but if I found someone's TOENAILS on my desk (where I often have lunch) I would gag! Did anyone fess up? I can't imagine that anyone would. Who would admit that they were that low class?

That's a pretty little hen, what is she?

Actually someone did fess up. And it wasn't in the pharmacy it was in the admin offices... I probably should have specified that! I'm the first manager to show up in the mornings, so I get to deal with a lot of stuff that isn't necessarily my problem.

Woke up to a nice steady rain here. We needed it but not as bad as some of you folk. Our chicken feed here has gone up to 18.95 a bag, it was 12.95 two years ago, I'd assume that's related to the recent drought issues. That's an insane price increase in just 2 years. Almost to the point of me wanting to downsize my flock. Almost.

Banty hatched both ducklings, they are so very cute. So far everything's going well with them, and I moved them out of the coop this morning into a broody cage. Normally I just let Banty and her chicks roam free but it's raining today and I know everyone's going to be congregated in or under the coop for the most part, and didn't want any squabbles to break out (I have a ton of broodies right now that are apt to try and steal ducklings from Banty) nor did I want the ducklings to start playing in mud puddles and giving mommy Banty a headache.

I have no idea what kind of a hen she is. She was my first swap chicken, I got her to keep a turken rooster I purchased company while he was in quarantine - I didn't have any bantams, so of course I had to get one. I got them for 50 cents each. They had lice or mites (can't remember which) and internal worms, and consequently were my LAST live birds purchased - I'll stick to hatching eggs, thank you very much. If I need to quarantine something for at least 4 weeks I'll just hatch my own and not deal with the pests. Banty is a pretty awesome hen, although she spends way too much time broody. She's a hardy little thing and significantly sub-zero winter temps don't even faze her.

Well, I have an interesting story. I went to Southern Idaho on July 9th. It is a desert and this time of year it's covered in a dry grass called Cheat Grass and Sagebrush, which is an oil laden plant.

Being sparsely populated, 10,000 acre fires started by dry lightening, only makes the local news....The National Fire Fighting center is located in Boise.

Anyway, one day we are headed to Boise, to pick up supplies for the patio, which I was finishing for my brother...I-85 got shut down and soon we saw smoke rising, and slurry planes and water helicopters flying.

After the huge fire was under control, at the head of the fire, we drove by a little stationwagon which had run off the road, through a fence and started the fire.

Later on, on the news, we found out that the woman had lost control, due to an erratic lane change....She just happened to have all her belongings packed in her car, and was headed to Oregon.......She had just escaped the Waldo Canyon Fire in Central Colorado. She was ok and escaped with her purse, but everything else was toast.
THe ironies of Fate.

That sounds very sweet. Congratulations on your soon-to-be SIL! It's wonderful that he's someone you would want in your family.

Neither we nor my parents did much of a proposal/engagement-type thing. Like my parents before me (though not intentionally), my DH and I just discussed marriage a few times and finally decided to go ahead and do it. We had already been living together for years, so it was mostly a matter of paper work. We had a tiny, pretty little wedding at my parents' house, which was just what we wanted. It was November, so we had a bit of a fall theme. Hot cider, rustic mugs and pewter leaf Xmas ornaments for the family members to remember it by, and a week in the Smokies in a cabin with our dog.

Do they upset her with overly duck-ish behavior?

I miss the hatch threads, too. I time my hatches just so I can participate, but I can't join them all.

Isn't it amazing how some people are still in high school after all of these years? Continued development is not guaranteed, the poor dears.

I hatched with a broody for the first time this year. The chicks are about 6.5 weeks old, and mama just started laying eggs again. They are in a separate run with their own little coop, and she is still sitting on them at night. When do you think I should put her back with the layers, or is there some way I could figure out her preference?

We had a small wedding too. In October in New England. With a horse drawn carriage ride to the Chapel for me and a ride to the old Inn for us to meet our 75 guests. That was small compared to my sister's wedding the month before! I remember the flower arrangements were all dried flowers made by my mother and MIL. THen we went to Cape Cod, a 1- 1/2 hr drive, to stay in a seaside cabin for a week in the off season. Heaven. To be the only ones on the beaches during stormy seas. To sleep in. We loved it. that was a few years ago . . . .sigh . .
