The Old Folks Home

Okay, almost 24 hours without a post? I know a lot of us are a bit long in the tooth, or beak but helllllooooooo. Did everybody check into a home? Buy the farm? Kick the bucket? Push up daisies?

Anyway. Saw the pain specialist today. I'm broken. Can't be fixed. But with the wonders of modern technology they can give me relief. All it takes is injecting anesthetic into my facet joints then keeping their fingers crossed that it helps but basically I'm just slowly toddling down a path that is progressive and destructive. I told them I would decide if to proceed after talking to my PCP next week.

Oh and I can only lift 15-20 pounds. CARP! No more dirt bike riding. No more construction. No more wrestling with 200 pound rounds of wood. Did I say CARP!? If not......CARP! I told DH on the drive home that if it didn't risk having a gout flare I could sure use an adult beverage or 6. Instead I stopped at the store and bought a bag of M&Ms. They were delicious.

So come on! Where is everybody?

So sorry to hear that Micro!! :hugs :hugs

micro, I just logged on. Sorry to hear the news. On a good note, I hope the injections help. On another note, have any of your doctors considered Boniva, Reclast, or any of the medications that increase bone density? While it may not solve your problems, it may be able to slow the deterioration down some.

I have to say, this time with the Zometa has not been as bad. Something I was reading, the doctor should have tested my vitamin levels, especially calcium, and vitamin D. I take a multivitamin every morning. Maybe the doctor thought that would be enough, but still no excuse for not testing me. The thing is, I was getting low on vit D. Ron suggested some drops, that have worked really well for me. I am taking an extra couple of drops of vit D after supper, and a Tums for the calcium.

I was at Rural King. Very frustrating visit, not happy with them. Sigh. Life goes on.

Yeah Cap! What happened?

@getaclue. I tried Fosamax. Couldn't tolerate it. I've had two Prolia infusions so far but by the results of my MRI it isn't doing too much good there as of yet and I don't think I tolerated the last shot all that well. The PA said words like advanced, blah blah blah, no fixing it, blah blah blah. Bone spurs, blah blah blah. Grinding, injecting and hoping for the best because I'm doing a lot already. Sigh.

I'm really okay with that. Just don't like giving up things I really enjoy because of it but that which does not kill me makes me stronger....if not my bones..

I’ve been crazy hectic busy. A potluck last night on short notice, so all my kitchen cleaning and work prep time was spent making cookies. And the rest of my work prep and BYC time was spent at the potluck.

Today helped DH buy his “new” van (2003 Chevy Astro with only 33,000 miles). This will be his winter car - it has all-wheel drive - and tool storage vehicle. He has been a contractor for years and swears by vans - tools and lumber don’t get wet. This one was a wheelchair conversion van, so even taller than usual. It has more rust than he was led to believe but his old one is up to 140,000 miles or something like that.

Then drove to Massachusetts to do some consulting work. Got home in time to do the finishing touches on dinner. Phew!

Rained all day. The rivers are low, so this is good. With the wood chip mulch on the garden, it’s almost always moist so I don’t need the rain there. But the “lawn” is happy. A more colorful collection of weeds and crabgrass you have never seen!

Amen Penny! That is how I look at it also. I just am teetering on whether or not to go through with the RFA and nerve blocks if the relief is only going to be temporary at best. She predicts 6-12 months if they work. If they don't 3 months or less. One way or another I'm still back to where I am with time with it still slowly progressing.

@getaclue, yep, I know you understand. Cap, Penny and others, you too. If you all can adapt, so can I.

Trumpeting.....can you bottle up some of that energy and ship it to Missouri! OMG! What a busy day!

Chooks are all doing well. Chicks are growing.Things are a bit more relaxed with Barney gone. I need to get out and worm everyone and do mite treatment. It's almost time to do fall cleaning. Where has the summer gone anyway?!

Cap, What happened?
I told the cashier first thing I have a tax number. She didn't put it in. So I had to go to customer service to get it corrected. I waited over half an hour( felt more like an hour) for them to try and fix the error. Once would be bad enough, but it happens like every second time I go there! I was late getting back thanks to them. And in no mood to unload feed.
