The Old Folks Home

Quote: We refer to our goats as "4-footed chipper shredders." There are a few things they won't touch, some after a couple of nasty experiences (someone around here has accidentally put some azalea, which is toxic, in their pen a few times).

They stay back far enough not to get singed, but our minis and goats display great sang-froid around burning brush piles and the tools of destruction used to create them. In fact, if you turn up carrying clippers, a weed-wacker, anything that may be used to cut plant material, you will immediately have a rapt audience, because to them, such activities spell, "food!"

That is hilarious.

I'm trying to take the tree and trains down, now, and hopefully get the tree into their run, soon.

A farm nearby is asking for donations of clean trees for their goats. I laughed when I saw that.

I just heard on a local radio station about 2 farms in CO with large goat herds asking for them too - first year I've ever heard it!

There are services here in California that hire out Goats to clean places up. One city is using them in a park.

Clearing brush was the main reason I got goats. They're doing a pretty good job, although their work is not limited to unwanted brush. They love my garden, flowering plants, maple trees...

Our storm is supposed to start around 4 pm tonight. I was planning on finishing up my chores, then doing storm prep. About an hour ago (right after I posted) I lost power. I just got it back. I have no idea why it went out but the ice from last week hasn't melted so I'm assuming trees continue to give out. I've moved up storm prep - filling up the tubs now, and when that's finished I'll go out and make sure all the waterers are filled to the brim. I can almost guarantee we're going to lose power tonight, again, when the heavy snow falls on the ice covered wires and trees.

This is so not fun anymore.

I thought this might help you decide what size setup is best for you http://www.electricgeneratorsdirect...-Pick-the-Perfect-Home-Standby-Generator.html
Good Luck what ever you do!!

~~SCG keeping :fl for you and your electricity. I went out yesterday on a small adventure to another frozen waterfall. Here are some pictures

This last one will give you an idea of the size of the falls.

Thank you for that link. I have to admit, electricity isn't my thing. I can do calculus, differential equations, organic chemistry... but I almost failed physics.

BF called around and couldn't locate a portable generator, but I told him that that was okay, because I/we have no idea what we're doing yet and just purchasing one outright by guessing isn't going to help. He's going to head over to his mom's after work and make sure she still has power (she's out of town until tomorrow) and that the house is okay.

I've got all the wood stoves going again, all the tubs are full, finally got the clothes finished washing and drying (when the power went out my comforter was in the dryer, wet).

I'm ready now, bring it Mother Nature.
