The Old Folks Home

PSA:
Saw an interesting show on how to survive falling into an ice pond. If the cold doesn't shock you to death, don't try to climb back onto the ice as you'll keep breaking the edge of your hole. Instead, try to align yourself horizontally and kick (like a kickboard) onto the flow. Being horizontal distributes your weight evenly and creates less downward pressure on the ice. You'll eventually hit a patch of ice that can support your weight and you can belly crawl out.

We keep a canoe at our pond in the event of an ice or water emergency. After the Dingo incident we keep close tabs on the dogs and keep them away from the ponds in the winter unless we are with them.

I think you guys jinxed me. My keyboard just died....had to swap the broken one for one of the keyboards in the radio room. DH ordered me a new one on Amazon.

Now I'm wondering how long my mouse has. Hopefully longer as it's brand new, LOL!

I skied again today, but got home at a reasonable hour to be scolded by the chickens and let them play on the deck for awhile.
I pour the warm mash into a tray and they gather round as I clear the deck of snow, plug in the waterer, clean up any stray poop, and converse with the girls.

I’ve never had a pet fall into the water but our old shepherd/husky mix used to run through an amazingly muddy marsh behind the house. (We lived on a cove in Rhode Island.)

Our big boy was forced into the tub and water had to run over him for HOURS (well, seemed like hours) before the mud came out of his thick under-fur. The husky in him, like down under feathers. That was the blackest mud you’ve ever seen, and it didn’t smell all that great, either! In fact, it reeked of whatever decomposes in a saltwater swamp.

Kinda like our two oldest dogs did when we got back from inspecting the fence. They found something delectably foul smelling to roll in. :sick I got the dubious honor of dragging them out to the hose and hosing them down. I told them I didn't care how cold it was, they weren't coming into the house smelling like that. Of course I caved and let them into the shop to drip out a bit before letting them in.

Skiing....:hitI was soooo hoping to get to CC ski this year. Got told no. Too risky.

That is too funny!

I have a lot of spare mice and keyboards at work. You never know when one of them is going to quit working

I have no idea what distracted her. For the past week, we've been down in the low 40's, which means that water was really cold. While it was not funny last night, the cat was swimming so fast, she was partially out of the water, almost like she was walking on the water, then she sprang up, and landed on the cool deck. No climbing out, just one leap. She was motivated, for sure.

She has not ventured near the pool today, but has gone out on the patio, stared at the evil pool, and growled at it. She's still angry about falling in.

She sounds like a very smart Cat!
