Ok, this is weird. Not weather related either. I don't think.
I went into the chicken run this morning, to pour hot water into their frozen water buckets. Out in their pen, they have had a cold old dead squirrel laying on the ground. My DH shot it, I figured they would eat it. I guess they were letting it "tenderize" for a few days.
Anyhoo....went in there this morning. .....and it was gone. No claw marks in the dirt around it. No dig marks around the fenceline. Nothing.
What would scavenge an old dead squirrel inside of a locked chicken run? In the middle of the night I guess? The dang thing didn't just get up and escape. And last night has been the coldest here in SC so far for this winter season.
I can usually find paw prints, or claw marks, or something...when predators are sniffing around the run. How odd.
