The Old Folks Home

I started driving in 1976. 1977 was the first year with normal rain after that drought.

Boy did I learn a lesson about the Pacific Storms we get here the first time I drove in one of those! It was very scary and I had been driving for a year and a half by then....
SOuthern Cali folk cannot handle rain. The lack of rain allows oil to build up on roads and freeways. after the first few drops of rain the roads turn into oil slicked death traps.

Quote: haahaaa-- I ask them to NOT tell me!! I know they are in safe hands with thier Dad or a trusted adult so DON"T tell me th details ! DH knows I don't mind the kids doing "dangerous " activites-- I just don't need to hear about it. I have to swallow my over protective instincts!! lol Son scard me an hour ago-- came in after hours outside, exclaiming he had a broken finger. At first I thought he was kidding as they have been joking about broken fingers each time they come in-- wet gloves freeze keeping fingers up right-- I join in on the joke and squeeze gently the finger, and he screamed. THen I near panicked, firing off questions and he started laughing. Tweens!!!

Quote: Bet the Saco is frozen-- BOston Harbor is expected to freeze at the shoreline tonight-- haven't seen that since . . . living in Maine. Jumping on the . . . forgotten the name of the small iceburgs at the shoreline.

I use comforters from the thrift shop, webbing and metal rings and snaps and heavier than normal thread. Takes about an hour to create using scissors and a sewing machine. Do you think the goats will rip and tear at a blanket?? I have canvas covers for my sheep but never used them. HOrses can be kind to blankets, or the opposite: pull them over their heads and stomp on it. lol No clue about a goat . . .

Gee-- I only thought that happened here--- must be 10 x worse for south cali if it rarely rains there.
"It never rains in Southern, California, ...but man it Pours!"

The problem is 0 rain from 4 to 6 months! Oily dust can collect on power lines and cause shorts during the first rain storm too.

We get a lot of rain for 4 months and that is pretty much it. We have a Mediterranean climate--Not diet though.....

I am not freezing in CO, but will be shortly. Almost 70 at the house today, temps are expected to tank overnight, but nothing like what you all are getting in the Eastern states. Brrr!

70 outside or inside?
LOL I thought the same thing!!

We have the wood stove at full blast still-- another COLD night tonight. I really love having warm water to give the critters-- and made gruel for the horses. Everyone ws crowiding me for their share-- feed in hierachal order keeps me safe. TOp dog eats first.

My old mare likes to eat snow with her hay-- nible nible nibble and watch the snow level drop!!! I actually cut back on the water buckets as she will eat snow over water; at lunch she was walking around looking for hay, the hay just tossed into her stall ( run in) and realizing her plight, picked up the flake and tossed it into the snow. NOW she was happy! Love my old girl.
