The Old Folks Home

Fun trip headed out BF left his wallet home so on the way back had him stop at the feed store .. My nickle there well they had just got the feed in wasn't off the pallet yet so got 4 bags going back tomorrow chicks come in going to boost the little coop with the marans boy in
he is sure pretty going to load it with EE like maybe 4 that would put me at 6 birds for him
the coop can support that

We got more resistors today, so I got the third wire run on my electric fence.

I got rid of most of my rat problem, but as the rats left, the field mice began showing up. They are very small, and very fast. They just hunt for a spot that the ground is a little lower, allowing them enough room to squeeze under the electric fence, without getting shocked. I have a bucket trap with peanut butter, and cracker chunks for bait. They ignore it. I have mouse traps, baited with both cat food, and peanut butter. They ignore them. Inside the coop, in a section the chickens can't get to, and I have bait blocks (poison) there. The bait blocks are diminishing, so they are eating them. It takes time, but I do seem to be getting my rodent problems under control.

I've seen no more opossums for a few nights now. All the normal sized raccoons have not returned for a few nights now. There's this 1 raccoon, however, that is huge, and seems to be the raccoon from Hades. We shall see how it goes tonight, with the third strand of wire up.

Good luck!

It sounds like the electric fencing is working very well!

I was trying to share a couple videos, but it won't allow me to put them up directly, like with photos. I'd have to create a Youtube account, or something similar, to be able to do it. It's not worth it to me. Sorry folks. I have a video of the second night, when a normal sized raccoon touched the fence, and it's reaction.

Tonight, I have not seen one mouse, or rat. The reason for that, has absolutely NOTHING to do with anything I've done on my part. A mouse, or two were walking along the upper portion of the back fence (not electric), and this huge owl swooped in, and snagged one. The owl hung around the fence line for quite some time. I suspect, it's still out there, watching. I got it all on video, which is the second one I was going to share.

IF the owl continues to hang around, I will removed all the poisonous bait blocks. It's not my intention to harm the wildlife here, unless I have no other alternative.
