When you're done Cap, would you make me a six foot tall wooden security fence around my backyard.? Tired of the buck that eats my plants. Wouldn't mind if he would at least shed his old antlers in my yard. Think I could barter with the guy next door and maybe he would cut my grass once to get them.

I would if I could, but I can't finish my projects as it is.

They’re in different countries!? how does that work!?

Apparently a couple of hundred years ago the two towns pretty much functioned as one. As it stands the Canadians have to go around to the USA side to get in but don't have to go through customs, there is a very specific sidewalk path which they must also take back. The books are in the USA side, the stage for the theatre is in the Canadian side. There is a black line on the border and an emergency exit on the Canadian side (safety you know). I should really go there some time just to see it.

Yeah, lots of bruises and skin breaks if I'm remembering the pictures right.

I gave up on the carrots, @bruceha2000 cultivated the area getting it ready to plant beans and corn over the weekend.

I do have a few seeds left. I think I'm going to fill one of my big flowerpots and see if I can't get them to germinate that way. Figure it's worth a try.

The big mystery is where did a half a row of sugar peas go?

Plant carrots, lettuce, cabbage and broccoli in August when the beans are done-- Nice winter crop for you to harvest!

Since you said you didn't have much experience with chicks, here are some pictures to compare to yours.
On April 8 I bought 6 Golden Comet pullets (a "red sex link" that is easy to sex at hatch that will lay a brown egg) at Tractor Supply to put under a broody hen. Many pullets sold at "farm stores" are some type of black or red sex link since the hatchery can tell the sex at hatch and they will lay a lot of eggs at a relatively young age (5ish months).
The first picture was taken on April 24. They were a little over two weeks old.
The next two pictures were taken today, 3+ weeks old.
You will note that none of the combs on these are as pink as those on some of your chicks.
I've never had Golden Comets before so can't say if their plumage color is normal for this age or not. I hope this helps a bit.

They look a lot like mine. They are growing like crazy.

Given they are not a breed and different hatcheries mix different breeds to get sex links, I don't think there is a "normal" plumage color.

Dh gave up on growing anything in the garden, at this time. We have a bumper crop of rabbits. Every sprout, every shoot, they decimated. Now, he's revamping the irrigation system on it, and will put in a bit of fencing to protect it when we plant later on.
