The Old Folks Home

I think it is a cool humane way to do away with them.
No firearms
yeah, but when the little devils are undermining your yard and destroying your flower beds, it's fun pickin' em off with the shootin' iron of your choice.;)

Happy mother's day all ladies out there. hope you had a great day. Being childless it took me some time to realize that mother is a verb as well as a noun. All women mother even if they haven't given birth to children. I think they should change the name of the holiday to 'Lady's Day' but I ain't in charge so I hope all my sisters had a great day!

After a burst of energy this morning where I baked brownies and a cake, putting half of both in the freezer, I spent the afternoon keeping the sofa from floating around the house. We all need a job, LOL.

Hope y'all had a great Sunday!

And then there were 21. Zorra died this morning, she was a month shy of 8 years. She's been off by herself during the day the last few weeks and not interested in morning BOSS or evening scratch so I knew she was fading. Last night she was in the closed nest box instead of up on the roost, same thing Yue (same 2012 batch of chicks) did last fall so I figured she would similarly live only a couple more weeks.

But this morning she had (I assume) a heart attack right outside the barn when I was tossing out BOSS and feed. Fell over right in front of me, I picked her up and she died almost immediately. Frankly I'd rather that than to find her just dead somewhere, I know she didn't suffer.

Zorra would go broody a few times a year and raised many of the remaining 21 girls.

This is her last June

Deepest sympathy, Bruce. Like dogs and cats, they leave footprints on our hearts that never go away.

Dd #2 came to wish me a Happy Mother's day. In one hand she had some flowers, in the other hand, a box. As she handed me the box, she said "mom, don't have a cow, have a duck."

A mother duck with 3 baby duck were walking on the sidewalk. Mother duck decided to cross the road. It's a very busy 4 lane highway. Mama, and 2 babies got run over. 1 baby ran back to the sidewalk. Dd #2 was already crossing the street to get the baby duck. She caught it, and took it home. She knew it was very young, and needed to be warmed up, so she put warm water in the bathtub. She then called Dd #2. Dd #2 headed over to her sister's, and they decided this duckling was very young, and needed a brooder set up. The pair of them decided that their mama would take care of it, so here comes Dd #2 with a duck. I've set up a brooder box for it, and put a stuffed animal in with it. It seems content for now. I gave it Purina Flock Raiser (all I have on hand), and a jar waterer. It's eaten some, drank some, is warmed up, and seems very content.

Happy Mother's Day.
