The weather is supposed to turn cooler here after the tropical storm moves through. I'm going to hold out for then and then clean the coop. Hopefully my back will be on friendlier terms with me by next week. Then I need to Ivermectin the birds when I clean.

For flies I use a liquid bait that you put in a pop bottle type trap. The stuff smells like rotted meat. Really nasty but the flies are drawn to it, get down in the pop bottle and can't get out. I've had over a liter of flies in less than a week. Pretty amazing really.

What's the liquid? We use bologna pieces for wasp traps. A liter bottle? Have you caught wasps in it?

Up here we are fully "open". All restrictions lifted. Some stores still require masks and hand sanitizer and gloves even.... and others don't.

People get to choose.



Sadly, it sounds to me like we are all going to have to get the virus... doesn't sound like we can get rid of it, I keep hearing about how it keeps mutating and changing, which makes me think a vaccine is impossible....

At least things are set up a bit better now, for when people get it.

But... however you feel about this virus thing, and "open" verses "closed" or masked or not.... I just really wish people could be POLITE, and NOT beat the snot out of each other.

There is a poem.. something like that..that brings up being nice. I'll see if I can find it.

No wasps. The bait comes dry in a package and you add water to it.

I buy it from Jefferspets.com. The company who makes the fly bait, also makes one for wasps:

I usually just buy the refills and make my own traps, cutting off the top third or less of a 2 liter pop bottle, inverting the top, sticking it down in the bottom half, then melting two holes in order to insert a length of wire for a hanger.

When it gets full I just toss the whole thing and start over. I had my doubts about it but it really does work. I haven't tried the wasp bait yet just the fly.

I think the masks are worthless, originally the CDC said the same, WHO is now, but whatever required here now for awhile. I wear it every time I enter a store more as a common courtesy to those that work there and to those that are wearing masks. Even though I know they are not protecting anyone it still ticks me off when I see people without them.

Bugs are horrible in our garden this yr. Don't usually get them this early when most plants still seedlings. Cucumber beetles usually have them when we actually have cucumber plants. Tons of flea beetles don't think I've ever noticed them before. Neem oil seems to be working.

There are reports coming in from several small countries, that they are getting zero hospital admissions from Covid-19. Their scientists are claiming that the mutation there, has become a less aggressive, less lethal strain than the original. I sure hope that's so, and it does mutate into a much milder strain.

Since I planted mint in my garden several years ago, I don't really see any bugs on my plants. I just have to keep thinning out the mint each year. Peppermint repels most pests. And rosemary works on a bunch also. And most strong smelling herbs and garlic keep the rats and squirrels out of the beds as well.

I may have told this already on this thread, IDK, if so, I apologize for boring y'all by repeating myself.

When I was in my favorite grocery store, I needed something in the produce department, but there was an employee working in that particular cooler. I stood back, patiently waiting while he worked. When he realized why I was standing there, he said, "sorry," and backed up several feet. I got what I needed, and as I moved back as well, I said, "it all feels a bit silly, doesn't it?" He shrugged and said, "that's the way the game is played." I said, "yep, so we play the game, and hope it makes a difference." That's been my attitude all along - whether it helps or not, it's not a huge inconvenience for me, so I will do what I can in the hope that it does actually help.

That is one thing about viruses - they change, often rapidly. The only time I had the flu , the nastiness only lasted about 3 days. That actually was a pattern throughout this community. It was so odd, they sent off samples to see if we had something different here than what was circulating in the rest of the country (this was many years ago). Turned out it was the same flu everyone else was getting, we just had a form that resolved quickly for some reason.

The asymptomatic carrier has been a theme practically from the outset with this virus; one sees estimates of 25 -50% of the people that get colonized by the virus never show symptoms at all. It would be marvelous if they could figure out why this is, and it turned out to be something that could be applied on a large scale.
