The Old Folks Home

@CapricornFarm did your hubby get the nut off the lawnmower blade? If not what kind is it. Could be a left hand thread.

Just got home from making the food run. Nothing more important than ice cream and dog/chicken food. I have decided we can get through any crisis as long as we have ice cream on hand and the dogs, cats and chickens need to eat as well.

I was so glad to get home and get the masks and hot 'going to town' clothes off. I think I was actually starting to feel hypoxic by the time I got home. I have to admit that I'm getting pretty adept at buying a months worth of perishables for us but lordie lordie am I the only person noticing the price of food going up? Some things 40 cents in a month's time.
yes and prices may continue to go up. We are stocking up on essentials a little each trip to the store. I believe we are going to have another peak

much going up here too, though some things, e.g. eggs and flour, are actually cheaper now - they've got the systems rejigged to supply the supermarkets with domestic sized packs of what used to go to the catering and hospitality sector in bulk.

YES most important to have ice cream, the more the better.

I stopped in my favorite grocery store this morning, and I was stunned - they had no ice cream AT ALL. One whole aisle worth of freezers, empty. Throughout the store, freezers, and some of the coolers, the same. After Hurricane Fran ('96), this particular store chain had installed backup generators at all of their stores, but I guess the powers that be decided that maintaining the things was just too expensive. We certainly weren't the only ones who lost power in Isaias; just thinking about the amount of food the stores must have lost makes me cringe.

Yes... tagic

YES most important to have ice cream, the more the better. It goes fast during any illness (real or imagined) I should know. I am running on empty. I had a Dr.appt. yesterday. My brother said on the way home he would take me to the grocery store to get ice cream. He lied!! :he

I hear ya, DD! I'm sure the young man who brought my groceries out to the van thought I was demented when I said, forget the meat, put the ice cream in the coolers! :lau We have 4 gallons on hand right now.

I just got my get out of jail pass from my doctor. Good for 3 months before I have to jump through hoops again. God I LOVE doing that over the phone!

He said somebody died in the county north of Kirksville and they had a big funeral that everybody went to...even from surrounding counties. Now, guess what is flaring? I told him people are silly. He agreed. I love it when my doc and I think alike! :gig

Wow that’s a lot of ice cream!! and I thought I ate a lot :lau

Not really, I had almost two gallons left over from last month. We only ate 2 gallons all month, 2 people. LIGHT ICE CREAM KELSEY....that means you can eat twice the amount without guilt!

Ye Gads I've been hanging around @drumstick diva too much. You are rubbing of on me, my friend!

Plus I only buy groceries once a month so if we run out of something perishable, tough luck till next month. Life without ice cream with Covid around? Too grim to consider the possibility!

Plus @drumstick diva, I have GOT to get a pick of your Varn boy. Little snot is gorgeous. He has filled out and matured and looks like a smaller red version of our Dingo. Acts like him too well with the exception of the cat thing and we've come to the conclusion after talking to people that Dingo was the exception to the rule.

Freaking broody hen is driving me out of my mind. Gave her four eggs, put her in my spare pen,. neeeeeeeeeoooooo I want out. let her out, She's puffed out, tuck tuck tukking along broody as they come. Catch her, stuff her back in the pen protesting and biting me all the way, slam the door, tell her to sit on the blasted eggs or don't sit on the eggs but she is NOT getting out of the pen till she decides.

I'll probably wind up having to start the eggs in my Brinsea and then do the bucket nesting box switcher-roo on her.
