The Old Folks Home

If Grandma were alive today I'm sure she would eagerly tell me more, Sadly those memories went to the grave. I sat with Grandma when she was bed ridden. My aunt's said she tells me more stories then she told them and they don't believe she has everything straight. I sat, listened, asked questions and she filled in all the details!😀
my grandmother was same way---taught me to sew, not my mom

I read that about mask use to, but she didn't talk about the Amish and Mennonites using them. And at her age that's probably what she would have mostly noticed.
That makes sense! The pictures I saw were not Amish or mennonites. It is likely their culture to not worry about viruses.

I did read an article about some amish having very rare genetic diseases due to marrying close relatives. If there is a resistance to covid gene in the community it may have been passed to a lot of them that way

Maybe they had more leisure time when they were older! 😉
The sewing gene seems to skip generations here starting with a great great Grandma that was a seamstress. My Mom sew, by sister does not. My oldest DD started making and altering her close as a per teen. She is quite talented!

My grandma had 19 children and she told me who each of her children were named after, their personalities and many tasty details 😀. I was 18 when my Dad was killed and I heard my Mom's feelings, The feelings of all 8 siblings down to my 6 yr old sister. But to hear my Grandmother talk about his death was beyond words! She was 83 years old and in tears she talked about her baby being killed and what she could have done to prevent it. I realized it doesn't matter how old a mother is... Her children are her babies!

and sorry to say my daughter wasn't interested but granddaughter soaks up baking and sewing like a sponge

It happens in your Family too!

All three of my DDs are very good cooks. The oldest is a natural though. She had a job making snacks for a wine tasting place in her early 20s.

The medical community may be able to learn something by tracing the covid among them. They do bipolar studies among them because they only marry among themselves and have no divorce so they are a good choice for genetic research.
The genetic diseases among the Amish are different then the ones among Mennonites. Mennonites have a kidney disease which the baby eventually dies because they don't live long enough to do a transplant. It has been traced to the Burkholder relation. Often times if they have one child with it they will have several, but usually not all the children are affected
