Right Chickadoodle, down here we don't know whether we will need an air conditioner or a roaring fire at Christmas. That is one thing I like here is that usually it will get cold for a few days and the waether will warm up and there will be some relief with temps in the 60s and 70s. We are still waiting for that warm weather this year. I grew up about 20 miles from the Florida line. I remember hunting quail in my shirt sleeves at Christmas. I have only had the waterers frozen about 3 nights week before last. I have a shutoff that isolates the water to my garden and the chicken coop. The chicken faucet is the highest on the slope. I shut the water off at th3e well and I open the hose nozzle and hang it up in a pecan tree. I then go to the lowest point and open the faucet that on the ground for watering the garden. The water that runs out of the low faucet pulls the water out of the hose. The hose is always open when I go to feed and water the chickens in the afternoon.

Quote: I know, right! I know last year in Jan everything was blooming! Now everything is frozen and it is snowing in Molino, Florida my son in law said it it snowing and sleeting! Crazy in FLORIDA???? I had a few plants in a planter my DH made for a few vegies and they have froze. I had hoped for some broccoli and cabbage and lettuce. Some for us and the chickens, oh well. Maybe later. One of my hoses that went to the garden split in the last freeze. I just took some warm water out this morning. The chickens are outside. But a couple of my Roosters have frost bite on their combs... Poor things

My cabbage and broccoli are frozen, what the chickens left. I am thinking about starting some plants for the spring. The onion growers south of here are usually planting arounf Christmas. I don't know how they are doing this year. I need my Vidalia onions next spring.

20 last night, barely supposed to hit 35-38 today. Am I in the south???? I planted seeds to take my mind off of it, the chickens don't seem to mind at all. And Kingfrodo, I am in dire need of coffee right now! On the flip side, I help a midwife and did a home visit yesterday. They happen to raise and sell fertile duck eggs. Oh boy! I love living in the country, and it WILL warm up. Y'all have a blessed day and keep warm..

Where abouts in the south are you?

Come one over...I've been drinking coffee all day....too cold for lower Alabama if you ask me!

His toes were fine when I got him at nearly 6 months old. It has happened since I got him. I am feeding Grower/ Finisher by Demur. I am worried it may be a vitamin deficiency.
It could be vitamins but likely it is genetic. To be safe, do not use him for breeding.

Of course you still could and watch out for curled toes.

I would like some vegies, but I think I may wait awhile. This artic weather keeps hitting us and I don't want to have to re-plant over and over.

We just harvested the bok choy. The Okra are being picked as they are ready. Local tomatoes are in the nursery and should go in this weekend. I am expanding the garden to triple its size and am hoping to have veggie independance by July 4

I signed up for a class last night. The lady registering me told me it was on the 1st. I asked "of January or February?"

Dead silence.

Then...

"January 1st has already passed."

"Oh, yeah, I suppose it has."

That kind of stuff really bothers me. I know it is the end of January. I can feel it's the end of January. I can see it's the end of January (based upon sunrise and set). So why doesn't my brain register that's it's January?
Don't ya just hate it when the crickets start chirping?
