The Old Folks Home

Every time I think stuff like getting the new BYC site back I realize how old I am! I am at the right place!

I completely agree with you though...The old site from two years ago was much nicer to use.

I used to check BYC threads daily and try to help out anyone that was new with an "easy" question because those tended to not get answered. Then it changed and I just couldn't figure it out. I still have not explored this new BYC much, and quite frankly, would not be on it if Wisher1000 hadn't sent me A DIRECT LINK to the old folks home and asked me to join.

Yup, this is her fault, y'all.

I was on Backyard Herds until recently when they redid that one to look like BYC.

Not sure if The Easy Garden is being updated or not (it's down right now for "updates" - this is not boding well for me).

Love,
Someone who still uses DOS at work.

I had to edit html code on Friday. Sometimes you just have to do stuff like that!

I also have to use command line commands to set Win 7 and Office 2010 to use our server to authenticate(Register) the software when I set up a new computer.

It is easier to do things that way sometimes. Here on the UCD Campus there is still some lab equipment that needs to run on DOS and some that need an old processor. It is hard to get old computers to work so many are using virtual machines to pretend a new computer is an old 286 computer from the 90s.

Getting back to the new BYC, When they archived the Heritage Large fowl thread and moved it to the new Phase II thread the told me of three places that they had announced it. It was not announced at any place that I saw it.

I guess I have a lot to learn about the new BYC even after two years of using it....

Ok, this is totally off topic but as you all know; the weather is warmer on this thread than others.

With that being said. I REALLY am in love with bourbon Red turkeys.

I would love to have a pair just b/c they are pretty. My question is can you eat the eggs?

Not sure what I would do with her eggs when she starts laying.
I don't have the desire to hatch or anything like that.

I just want a pair b/c they would make great yard ornaments

I find that turkey eggs taste more like chicken eggs than my duck eggs do. I reserve the duck eggs for baked goods (and in an omelet with other types of eggs), and interchange turkey and chicken eggs. Turkey eggs are much bigger but to me, taste about the same.

The biggest issue I've had with turkey eggs is not whether to eat them, but rather how to find them. My turkeys do not lay in the nesting boxes. I am constantly out in the woods in spring, summer and early fall looking for eggs.

Sigh, I still long for the old BYC site. This site may have a trillion new features but, most are things I never would use even If I could figure out how. Just too intimidating and too slow .

My turkeys are CRAZY girls!!

They just started laying last week. I am not sure what they are thinking but I am hoping that spring is coming sooner than normal and we will quickly be out of this arctic freeze!
