The Old Folks Home

I've always preferred TOS so I was leary of the movies or the alternative time line. Have to admit that I like the movies with the 'older' crew better than the original series and even set and watched The Voyage Home last week just for fun. Chis Pine played 'Kirk' far better than Shatner did. Now I have a hard time watching the original series and taking Kirk seriously with Shatner playing him.

I used to go to Sci Fi conventions in my younger days. Got to see Doohan at a Denver Con and Shatner do a one man show at IL State University. Fun times.

What did you think helped most then? He seemed to think highway miles- what would you say is better to do, some stop and go and hit a few bumps
Hit and miss just hoping you can slide through between when you can and when it's too late. I've got lucky many times getting it in between. Having a decent code reader helps alot. I never had one when luck was helpful.
Have a code reader now (wasn't too expensive but better than my first Wal-Mart special $20 model (was handy for our other vehicles), that one would not even link to our Expedition, I think it was around $50 for the one I have now) you can leave hooked up and tells you when good for inspection. Hasn't helped me on our Expedition cause engine light comes on immediately, spent some $$ on parts, used and new...still trying to figure it out so nothing is easy on this. Really want to get that one cause it's our best vehicle with the newest most aggressive snow tires.
I did figure out the plow truck I bought last year for $900. 2003 Chevy 1500, rusty very rusty but only 130,000 miles, low miles for 2003. Engine light on three codes evap, multiple cylinder misfire and oxygen sensors. Spark plug wires chewed up by mice so replaced them and plugs first. Still came up multiple cylinder misfire (ran smooth, perfect). Then fuel pump quit... Ended up being wires to fuel pump chewed by mice fixed wires. While in that process realized there is a sensor on the fuel pump tests fuel tank pressure for evap system. Replaced it, $35, solved evap code (wonder how many vehicles I've had and got lucky in between code coming up on evap that could've been all it was??)
Multiple cylinder misfire still code coming up. Could be ignition coils, or fuel injection. I've pulled fuel rails before and turned over engine and found plugged fuel injectors so figured next step...saw not easy on this one.. Googled what else, could also be EGR valve gasket leaking (from the exhaust to the intake) yeah there is a noise under the hood so maybe, yup coming from there, so started loosening up bolts...plate it's bolted to was cracked and broke. Replaced it off our suburban. Solved that one no more multiple cylinder misfire. Drove it for a week to work thinking it's good and inspectable and then oxygen sensors code comes up again....
I did not like that one, oxygen sensors on old rusty vehicles are very difficult to get out, very difficult to get to, and new one's not a guaranteed fix if something else wrong so didn't drive it for awhile frustrated.. Then got thinking about the mice chewing through fuel pump wires and spark plug wires... sure enough checked, chewed through. Had to resplice two spots one side, one spot other. Easy fix. No engine light now inspected easy.
So best thing to do is fix what's wrong. Not easy. I got lucky many times on timing getting vehicles inspected but if you can just fix what's wrong.
I'm really cursing Government right now though not being able to drive our Expedition. I even built a smoke testor from a YouTube vid hoping I'd figure it out. I'm about ready to pay a garage $$$ more than we paid for it to be able to legally drive it..

Two days into my three day work week. With the time change I just made it home to feed the chickens their "dinner" and say good night. Made some yummy salmon chowder for dinner. Canned salmon I bought was basically a whole chunk of fish (including bones) in a can which I was not expecting, so took way more time to add into the pot than expected!
