The Old Folks Home

If you get a survey in the mail, make sure you answer it and tell them what happened.
Heck with waiting for a survey, I think that sort of treatment by the nursing staff deserves a call to the hospital administrator. I understand 1 doctor can only deal with one patient at at time but a gab session at the nurses' station when there are ill people in beds?

Good point Bruce.

I had an incident many years ago when my mother was dying. She was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia but because of a flu surge the only beds they had open were on Pediatrics so they put her there. She got excellent care there. The nurses treated her like a little kid and kept checking on her and were sharp when it came to reading her symptoms. When she was discharged, I brought a cake up to the floor and wrote a sterling review for them. They deserved it.

Several months later she was admitted again and this time to a regular med floor. The care stunk. The nurse didn't know whether she was afoot or horseback and tried to give her meds when she was unconscious. When she tried to give her fast acting insulin I pointed out that mom would crash as in a comatose state she would be unable to eat and the IV by its self wouldn't sustain her. I'd seen it happen before. Next thing I knew there was a doctor in raging at me (not her regular doc but a fill in as her doc was out of town) and social services were there. I told the doctor that he was working for us and not us for him and I'd pull mom from his care and move her to another hospital if the crap didn't stop.

Then I told the Social Worker everything that had happen since her admission and said compared to the care she had gotten on pediatrics, my dogs could take better care of her. The Social worker straightened. You are the lady who wrote the wonderful review of the Peds unit aren't you? I told her yes I was. She reached out and squeezed my hand and told me not to worry, she would take care of it.

From that point on mom got good care. Not excellent but I was able to fill in and see that her needs were met.

As for the doctor? He called me an intimidating little lady. Danged straight. You can mess with me but don't mess with my family.

Squeaky wheels do get addressed so time to start squeaking.

Sad that there are people in the medical community that have egos the size of Alaska

This, sadly, is almost an understatement. I worked for a surgical/pharmaceutical company, and we ran training sessions for surgeons. I try not to generalize about groups of people, but across the board I found this to be true - coupled with total disregard for others.

Lima beans are yummy, especially fresh. We do them in the Instapot with bacon, butter and brown sugar. I've grown them, but they're a lot of work -- particularly at harvest and shelling -- for what little you get.
This next year the bean selection is Haricot Tarbais, the beans used in cassoulets. Actually, the theme for next year's veggie compound is all French-origin vegetables, so French beans, carrots, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, melon, lettuce, onions, radishes, spinach and squash. Ooh la la!

I love beans in any form. Lima beans/succotash one of my all time favorites.
Costco has a 65 serving emergency food bucket...mostly rice and beans

It's called Spanish Bean Soup, but the beans are garbanzo beans, or more commonly referred to as Chick Peas. Chick peas are the main ingredient of hummus. It has water, a ham hock, chorizo sausage, onions, garbanzo beans (also called chick peas), cubed potatoes, along with saffron, and a few other seasonings.

Have to be careful with hospitals. They'll kill you. :he

I agree Sour. I know this first hand, and because of my crappy health, have dealt with it a lot. Seems like women have to deal with it more from doctors. They don't seem to take us as seriously.
