The Old Folks Home

I am beyond being surprised by what people will do, Ron.

I get grossed out by a blood egg when I get one so cracking an egg with an embryo in it? Yuck!
Blood and blood spots are gross! The spots I remove but I will not use a bloody egg, even though it is fine to use.

Me neither. I made the mistake of cracking one into a cake mix and getting a blood egg for my efforts. Grabbed a spoon and started scooping out egg along with a bit of mix. I mean, why throw out the baby with the bath water?

Now I break them into a cup first. Learned that one the hard way.
I grew up with chickens so learned to do that when I started baking.

The embryos that landed in the pan were from a farmer's swap meet in Flagstaff, AZ, about 10-15 years ago. When I told the seller about it, she just said they were meat and wouldn't hurt me. That was the last time I bought eggs from her. Yuck. She needs to keep better track of her eggs. Then the man at the swap meet last fall gave me more eggs that were starting to develop, but were not nearly as far along. Weird that it happened twice, but none of those hatched. One egg came close, but little Swappy (short for swap meet egg) never made it to hatching.

Anyway, life can be weird sometimes. Hope everybody is having a great day, and getting lots of eggs.

I just put in a call to someone who makes chicken coops. Chicken math is starting to happen.

It sounds like a fun time! Congrats on getting a new coop project going.

I have to make sure hubby doesn't see that picture, @Alaskan! He'll be wanting to move to AK even more.

"I'll build you a great big greenhouse," he said.

He told me he's going to keep asking at random times, waiting to catch me off guard, so I'll say yes.

Save your breath, dear, save your breath. The long hours of darkness would make me go flat out insane.
I saw this one house where they put a huge greenhouse on the garage roof.

Brilliant! Access all winter!!!
