The Old Folks Home

Have a hundred acre field behind us, I'll make sure it's when grass is growing, or now jungle of matted mass, won't fly it if after they cut and dry and hard and some stubble.
I think you need to find a golf course fairway! When that balsa plane hits the grass in a field it will likely flip.

  • Test passed in Mom's '72 Chevy 350 Malibu automatic
  • First car '69 VW Squareback auto. Bought from my uncle, he got new cars every 5 years. First "consumer" fuel injected car as I understand it. And apparently the automatic was pretty rare.
  • Second car '78 Toyota Celica auto
  • Third car '86 Mazda 626 turbo - stick
  • Fourth car '95 Odyssey "the most car like of minivans". Toyota can't say that any more. Picked it up, took it home, took out the mid row seats and went to buy a twin mattress set for DD1. Brought that home, put the mid row seats back in, went to the hospital to collect DD2, her first car ride.
  • Fifth car '04 Prius
  • Sixth car '09 Prius in '12 because the '04 was rear ended and totaled.
  • Seventh car '18 Prius Prime in '19 because the '09 was hit and totalled.
None of the last 3 cars are really auto OR stick, no gears to shift. They have a planetary gear transmission. SMOOOOTH! Like "Guzzler's Gin" - bonus points for those that know the reference without using Google :D

DD2 had to ask the driver's ed teacher what to do once she turned the key in a "regular" car. She knew that much by watching others. She's never driven anything but a Prius other than in DE.

First tractor - old sears garden tractor given to me by a friend
Second tractor - new sears garden tractor - still have it for lawn mowing and snow blowing
Third tractor - 35 HP Mahindra Hydrostatic. Even though I've not had a stick shift since 1995, my right hand thinks it is supposed to go to the loader lever and shift!!!!!

@CSolis! Congratulations on the new 'Friend' badge! Can't think of a more deserving recipient! Your birds are beautiful and Bandit is quite the handsome fellow.

I've read articles about the drawbacks of vaccinating birds for Marek's Disease. But frankly for me, if it wasn't for bringing vaccinated birds in to my flock, I wouldn't have a flock now. It was that close for me and only bringing in resistant birds and vaccinated birds allowed me to slowly see an end to the deaths from MD.

Sometimes you have to deal with the devil you know as the old saying goes.

@bruceha2000 thank you for the birthday greeting. Still trying to get my head wrapped around this 68 thing.

Went this morning to get blood work done. I told the nurse who drew my blood that at least I didn't have old lady slippery rope veins. At lest not yet. Set in the waiting room watching a stupid woman take her mask off to talk on the phone when there is a "MASKS REQUIRED" sign in plain view. Then there was the lady who looked like she was on chemo. Thin, sparse hair, cancer 'pallor' that folks get when they are on chemo. Sitting there sipping on a drink .....with no mask on. Meanwhile, I'm sitting there with my double mask on cowering in a corner. I can't think of anybody who really needed to be masked more than that poor lady did.

I swear nobody in town takes this seriously except me and my DH oh and the people working in the clinic.

Is there a reason somebody would be compelled to take their mask off in a doctors office in order to talk on the phone? Does a mask make everyone talk like Darth Vader? Frankly I can't think of a place where people would feel more compelled to wear a mask than a doctor's office.

@Sally PB There must be something going around with mufflers. DH spent three days putting a new down pipe on his VW Jetta. As for cars, all we drive are used cars. Easier on the Missouri personal property taxes.

Anyway, Howdy y'all! Lotsa sun here today and hot. Looking at the mid 90s over the weekend.

I finally got my big coop cleaned. It was a hard job for me to get done this year. Mainly due to my foot pain and lack of energy. Yesterday I found myself shoveling out 10 shovel loads then resting. Did that for awhile. Then 5 shovelfuls and rest was down to 2 shovelfuls and resting. Spent a lot of time leaning on the shovel and watching the chickens going about their daily business.

Dh fever keeps spiking and blood tests clearly show infection but they can't find where the infection is at
I'm so sorry that he is going through this. How frustrating. It has probably become a game of 'rule out ' for them now. Keep ruling things out till they finally find out what is wrong with him. Definitely yes to the chicken noodle soup. It will raise his spirits if nothing else.

Thanks... Which leaves me wondering how I dunnit :D
Which breed of roosters have no wattles? I'm curious because Bandit has zero wattles to speak of.. Just a big black beard.
P.S. Nevermind on the question. Bandit is typical for the breed it was sold by TSC to be. Ameraucana. Including his pea comb, beard, body type and color. Guess TSC got it right for a change.

Well, you have to be nominated to get the badge. I bet there were quite a few people here who thought you worthy of that honor. Right guys? You have been through a lot recently and endured it all with an upbeat attitude and an unwavering smile in what you write.

Plus your love for your birds, wild and domesticated shines like a beacon.

Like I said, you deserved the badge!:hugs

Thank you for all the prayers! After all the imaginable tests his fever finally broke. The infection team says they don't believe it was bacterial, and if it was viral then the antibiotics were useless. They believe the humira he takes for crohns was fighting his immune system. But the IV was helpful in combating the diarhea. So this afternoon they took him of the antibiotics and if he doesn't get more fever spikes, diarhea or dehydration he's looking at coming home tomorrow afternoon. They said viruses tend to have more fever spikes the bacterial infection. But to think a simple cold virus could all that!
