The Old Folks Home

So hello, old folks! I read through some of the posts, but I haven't figured out how old is old to fit the original idea of this forum? I'm a great-grandma with a 120 lb German Shepherd, a 5 lb poodle, and 15 chickens. I play the harp and hike a lot alone or with my husband in the mountains of our Arizona desert. I always bring the dogs....the chickens told me they'd rather hang around the yard. And at this time of year with the monsoons, I don't blame them!!

My scobe is on the bottom of the jar. Happened when I added lukewarm sweet tea to the jar. Did I kill it?

No! Scoby can be on top, in the middle, or on the bottom. Don't worry. As longs as the tea wasn't too hot (88?90? degrees?) it'll be fine.

I think I've read if it's cooler than about human body temp, it'll be ok. But the ideal brew temp is about 72-75. Though in the winter, I'm sure mine is brewing at about 65-68, and it does fine.

I waited until the tea was warm but not too warm. All the photos I've seen are when the scobe in on top, so that worried me. Thanks for letting me know!

Actually burned a roast I was cooking to pull got pre occupied with a load of firewood that we had delivered.
left the burned in with water pulled the remainder made a great dinner in the end

Pretty funny was mad when DW accidentally bought them .

Still a great variety. I plant a couple of them every year.

Speaking of porches and a cuppa....

Sometimes we cuddle...

Sometimes we share a little music...

Sometimes we share a snooze....

They have a great guardian in Big Bill, ready to take on all dangers...

Or crow at morning's rainbow....

He's a wonderful, gentle rooster who cares for his girls!

But the only way they can free range safely in a desert filled with coyotes is their 120 lb German Shepherd guardian!!
