The Old Folks Home

Good morning all. Here with my coffee and a little quiet time before the family gets up, they get to sleep in on Sundays. We are having yet another wind storm up here in the lovely PNW..it is raining and the wind is making the rain come down sideways. I want to go outside and do a good spring clean up in my garden but it is just too windy and rainy to do so. I have to take a friend to the airport in a few hours and maybe when I get home it will be calmer out there and I can get something done.
What are you doing today?

Edited because I am embarrassed to use the word to, too, and two incorrectly. :)
Right now, I am enjoying the warmth of the sun coming through the window. Run to the store to pick up pet food. Today is Sunday baking and I am making Pumpkin, walnut with dark chocolate chip baked oatmeal. To help my work team make it through the Monday blues, I am going to make some pecan sticky rolls.....though I think later in the week I am going to make the casserole Ron posted. They would love that. Also working on packaging for my earrings.

Why do you always post food pictures when I'm hungry?

Perhaps I just get hungry when I see beautiful food.

Daughter posted some pictures of Kuang Si waterfall.
She said it was "really cold, with little fishes nibbling at your feet, but a good swim — "

Now she's off to Vang Vieng.
I am glad your daughter is having fun.

Mrs Oz will be back in Bacolod tonight

Here is their last Balinese feed

My daughter (eldest) moved to Chicago for college and dance when she was only 17. More recently, both kids moved out within 3 months of each other. That was weird. After a year, my daughter moved back in for a few months to save up for her trip. It doesn't bother me but I do miss how the kids were when they were pre-teens.
My wife cried really hard when my daughter left this time. I don't remember it being that hard on her when DD went to college or to Europe.
I stay busy so maybe that's it.

Isn't it fun being busy?

We usually had about 7 horses when I was growing up. They never caused much trouble but it was the pigs that always got where they shouldn't. My dad had a huge problem building pig proof pens. It seemed like I had to chase pigs every day. They don't herd very well.

Good job. Just make sure nothing that loves the taste of chicken can get underneath.

I don't start with firefox but usually end up putting it on every computer. I'm using IE for BYC but have to use firefox for yahoo mail. It hates IE on my computer for some reason.

It is nice to have someone else from the same coast!

No rain here--the High Pressure ridge is back

I got up a bit later than normal. Today I am setting 50 eggs! UofA blues and Olive Eggers, UofA blue x Crele Penedesenca. I ah also setting 11 Partridge Pene eggs for a test hatch.

I will be finishing cleaning and sanding the runs and treating the coops and small breeding pens.

I made and over night Breakfast casserole so Breakfast is fast this morning.
Ron good luck on your hatch! Is there any way I could beg you to take pics of your small breeding pens for me to see? I have a diagram drawn up for my pens but it is actually a rectangle sectioned off into 5 pens and 2 grow out pens that could be used for babies or broodies. But I am not sure of how to cover the runs with putting welded wire over the top of the pens to keep predators out! That is the problem we are trying to figure out.
Love the Casserole recipe, thanks for sharing.

Weighed and leg banded all the NYD chicks. Hopefully get 2 coops mucked out. Making some feeders for FF.
Son and his girlfriend are coming over for lunch and to change his oil.

That grilled fish looks awesome, as do the veggies. What's the last picture, quail, frogs or prawns?

She is having fun for sure. I just looked up Vang Vieng, Laos. It's listed as one of the top 10 places to party in Asia. So far she's been to 3 of them.
Here's what I read. "~Partying literally dominates this little town in central Laos as there is not much else to do there. It’s even been called a ‘rite of passage’ for anyone traveling to Southeast Asia and looking for a party. One of the best ways to get your party on here is to go tubing. You can rent tractor tire tubes and drink your way down the river, stopping along the way at bars for Lao whiskey shots and buckets of Lao whiskey and coke."
Sounds like trouble.

The food looks wonderful! I hope your wife has a safe trip back home.

I have a bunch of pictures of my breeder complex. I'll try to get them loaded if I have time later. It's 5 units shaped like a hexagon with a breezeway down the middle. On one side is 2 units for pairs and one for a trio. The other side is 2 units for a rooster and up to 5 hens. From the breezeway I can access all the nests, roosts, bulk feeders and auto water. Chickens have been living in there for 18 months and it's not complete yet. Still don't have gutter finished nor the automatic doors. Plan is for 2 auto doors on each unit so I can choose which pen they go into. That way I can rotate pastures.
