I squatted down and she walked right into my hands. Guess all that time in the dog pen getting doctored and taken care of by Moi has really done a treat. She even gets treats out of my hand now, whereas before she wouldn't come near, not even for treats!

Mine have never been pets .. Don't really understand.
Our dogs and cats are pets ? Chickens have a job if unable sell or cull .. To old to start over thinking stuff

I'm more happy for her. . She was a production hen (1 of 4) I got two years ago. They were never handled of course.. They had a job to do. I brought them home and set them up in one of the large pens. It took days for them to even venture out of the hen house into the sunshine and start roaming around. Still, they would timidly come when I threw out scratch grains but had no clue about other treats. What's scrambled eggs? Are they good to eat?
It's taken this injury and time in the dog crate being doctored to get her thinking I'm not all bad. And taking treats from my hand is normal now. Good on her!

They are family to me. My kids so to speak. Gator is also a big part of my life as my 'real' family is all gone. Even the Lord looks after a sparrow, why shouldn't I care as much for the 'birds' I have adopted, hatched, or bought as chicks?

The good Lord gave me compassion and intelligence. I treat all of His creation with respect.

Mine are family too and just as much pets as the cat, dog, budgies. Maybe more so hahah they’re all named and all have unique personalities that are fun to watch. That said though, I have had to cull some and always hate it

Usually it’s sick ones but I also have had to put down some that we couldn’t keep

I actually cried for two cockerels we had because they were AMAZING birds but they hated each other so always trying to fight and also were extremely loud so they had to go

I still regret putting them down though. Although we have their kids now.

Problem is it takes a long time to get in to see another dentist, and i need to get a lot of work done.

Today i spent hours digging up rocks in the river and rinsing them off to keep the ones i like. It was quiet and peaceful.
I had the occasional company of my dogs, as well as 2 bald eagles that were fishing. Such beautiful birds!
