The Old Folks Home

Thanks for the link for shade cloth! I am sure DH will appreciate not doing hutches in each pen and getting shade cloth to hang instead will make him happy.

We are only doing small raised bed gardens now. I cannot bend over to work the ground gardens any longer. We do have a small compost pile but most of the shavings we burn.
DH is going to clean out one of his sheds and let me have if for brooders and rabbits. I wish I could do more to help. But I still cannot walk around the whole grocery store. And I cannot lift anything even milk is a struggle. I am working at it and trying to get stronger. At least I don't have to use the walker any longer! YEA!

Sorry to hear. I probably missed it but what happened - if you don't mind my asking.

I have a friend that is only in her 40s and can't even clean her aquarium.
I'm in my 60s and there's very little I can't do but I'm trying to stay off of extremely high(30') ladders lately.

I'm getting gardening apprentices this year. WOOHOO!!!

Thanks. I went into the hospital to get tests done and wound up on life support twice and two weeks in the hospital.
I was finally told I had double pnenomia and CHF, COPD and all the organs in my body shut down and went into failure and malnutrition.
I could not even walk when I first came home from the hospital. And my Dr. told me it may take till this Christmas for me to get my strenght back up. I sure hope so!

That is awesome that you are getting some apprentices! We live in farm country and everyone here farms something or everything... lol including catfish!

New chicken tractor condo. Barred Rocks and the little red headed hen from next door. She has a crush on the rooster.

The main flock.....for eggs.

The two naughty kids. They wouldn't go to the coop last night, and the red cockerel ran off after the little red headed hen. Had to retrieve him from the neighbors pen. Her critters...were not happy!

The goats were not liking him, her cockerel was pretty miffed, the 3 peacocks as flew to the shed roof, her hens were trying to hide. So, he is on house arrest. He still can eat grass etc.....just not free range anymore. Game pullet, is just too stubborn.

No fair the red headed HUSSY came to visit him first- your neighbors need to put her on house arrest. Your rooster just wanted to be sure she got home safely. This is what he gets for being a gentleman.

My neighbor even told me she wasn't sure how she was going to keep her in the pen. She has a huge-HUGE- fenced run...uncovered. Has goats, turkeys, guineas, chickens, peacocks. The birds all fly over the fence to free range. Oh, and Mr Red Rooster....he was hatched there. I just got him back in Nov....I had hoped 90 days over here, penned up (no free range), he'd forget about her. NOT

It's kind of cute really.

P.S. We ate the 3rd one. She gave us 3 free cockerels. I kept 2 for breeding purposes, and one was for supper. Quite tasty too!!

I am in Alabama normally we have pretty mild winters and only a frost or mild freeze once in a while. I could do something for protection.
I will look into the suggestions for the French drain. Thanks ChickenCanoe!
I am in the process of doing a few in the next few weeks French drains that is. I will post pics of progress and finished product. I have 2 open coops and 1 slightly flooded when we had 11 inches of rain a few weekends ago . I use sand in my coops so it drains quick but still need the drains
