The Old Folks Home

They know it is still going to be cold up here!

Though I've seen some robins, which is crazy this time of year. I have no idea what they will eat because there surely are no bugs.

The local, reputable dealership said the longest they've seen on turnaround, when ordering one, is 5 months. They said the turnaround is much faster on lower end vehicles, but the higher end the vehicle is, the longer it takes. What I've ordered is is upper middle-range, not really high end. I'm willing to wait to get exactly what I want, since that's the only way I'll get what I want.

Ford did a 100 mile search, from my area, and there are 0 vehicles that match my criteria. The main option I am wanting, that has them over a barrel, so to speak, is that I want the 40/20/40 leather trim, front seats, which is made exclusively for the Lariat.

DH drives a 1986 VW Jetta, Automatic Diesel that gets 50mpg. He is working at restoring it.

I have a 1985 Mercedes Diesel.

If there is an EMP, those two babies are gonna keep on keeping on while all the newer stuff with computers and high tech electronics are going to be DOA.

Then our 'farm truck is a 2005 Econoline Van. We keep talking about getting a 4WD truck but heck, the Van is fully enclosed, paid for and the biggest headache it's given us is the motor to the driver side window keeps self destructing. DH has gotten good at replacing it when it dies.

Getting rid of it would be like tossing out the baby with the bath water.

It's hit the mid 80's later on in the day here. Grateful for the warmth.
That is past the acceptable range for our family!

BUT it has cloth seats instead of leather,
To each their own ;) Last thing I would want in a hot climate is leather seats.

No, it does not have Dh's name on it. It has someone else's name.
Perhaps a call to Dell is in order? Either the name OR the address is incorrect.

I am sooo dreading having to replace a vehicle. :barnie
Hopefully I won't have to for awhile .... unless I am AGAIN hit and totalled.

Wow. Buy a truck that has everything else you want and buy a couple of Lariat seats ;) Or take the undesirable seats to an upholsterer, I'm sure they can copy the look. My butt and back cover the seats, I'm not going to pass on the almost perfect vehicle (for me) for seat covering color.

bruce, it's not the color that's the problem. It's the actual seating. The few trucks available have to 40/Console/40 seats, and I want the 40/20/40 seats. As for not wanting leather seats in a hot climate, the seats cool in the summer, and warm up in the winter now. It's not like years ago.

micro, what if there isn't a major EMP? Even so, if there is a major EMP, a vehicle shouldn't be the first concern.

My current vehicle is a 22 year old Ford Expedition. It's been a wonderful vehicle, but is on it's last leg now. It has rusted out places on the roof, so it needs new metal cut, and welded in. It's needing new wiring. It's needing a mechanical overhaul. If we had a place to store it, and the capabilities to restore it, it would make for a great project. Unfortunately, we can't meet the criteria. In addition, our needs have changed.

I expect that this new truck will be the last vehicle I'll get in my lifetime, so I'd like to get what I want. I don't expect supply chain shortages to improve anytime in the near future, nor do I think prices will go down. I think I'd better get what I want, while I still can.
