MJ's little flock

I'm minding my cousin's kids and sweet little doggy.

🤣
This is the strangest solution I ever saw to make a comfy roost. But if Angel has foot problems I do get it. 👍💚

Did you ever search for optimised roosts (in general)? In the Netherlands people advice 4x 4 cm with rounded edges for normal sized chickens.
The henhouse is custom-built, and I didn’t think to give the builder specific measurements when it came to the roosts. He made them out of quite thin wood, so I took a leaf out of @micstrachan ’s book and wrapped old towels around them to make them comfy. I just reused the lower roost for the new one, so kept the towel. No feet issues, just for comfort. ☺️

Assuming it is anything like mine it will be decades before you need anything like that!
I've never had to replace a zipper or a wheel on a travel pro. Both of mine finally died when the extending handle failed after more than a decade of use.

I constructed a new roost and poop shelf today. Angel had taken to sitting in the corner next to the window and right over the duck walk, making a huge mess. :sick I’m assuming it is a bit draughty in front of the window and she was moving away from the draft. So I made a smaller roost higher up and in that corner, and also a little poop shelf.

At bedtime, Angel got it straight away. She was settled down and even had her bum pointing in the right direction! Princess wasn’t sure and was looking for somewhere else to go, until I showed her it was big enough to share. Hopefully she stayed put.

I love when you can help make what they want to do nicer and easier for them. Nice job.

Thanks! She was stubbornly roosting in that corner; her alternative was on top of the food box when she was on her own, on a towel. I let her do that when she was solo, but she made a mess of the towel. I'd rather she pooped over the edge of something onto either the straw on the floor, or some sort of poop catcher. Straight onto the towel is just gross and effort is needed to eventually clean.

It looks like a very effective solution to me.
