The Old Folks Home

They were chewing through the Ramik like popcorn and they kept coming.
The rats did that too so I keep putting out more until no more rats. Many months later I found where the rats stashed the Ramik. My guess is the juvenile skunks found it because there were 5, neighbor saw one dead in the road. I found 2 dead in the barn, don't know what happened to the other 2 but I assume they also found the Ramik.

I'm finding dead mice pretty regularly. 8 today and only one near the bait. I have an unused pen that I have been putting the holders in. Chickens can't get into it but the mice can.

Howdy Folks! It's 90 degrees here. So we went from fires in the fireplace, jeans, long sleeved shirts and hoodies to shorts tank tops and fans in less than a week.

Whatever happened to spring?

I read where this weather would hold on for a week and then temps in the 70s. More like May here with those temps.

My broody setting bantam eggs and two 'donations' from the regular hens has one egg with a pip in it. Small pip but hey a pip is a pip!

I have a polish that's broody. 4 eggs so far.
Congratulations Cap.

I have one broody on 10 eggs with pips, just got one out of the broody buster and another that is walking around tuck tuck tucking to herself so I have a feeling she will be taking the one that just got out's place.

It's in the 90s here this week. Normal is in the 70s. Last week it was in the high 40s low 50s. I wish the weather would pick a number and stick with it.

I don't let hens set eggs here over the summer months. Too hot. Last time I did that I had low hatch rates and skull deformities. Not worth the risk.

Did i show you guys the garden i am working on?

Your garden is about twice the size of mine, Cap. Good job!

DH went back to the edge of the timber and brought up two tractor buckets of soil for me to use to fill my last two tomato planters.

After I plant my last two tomatoes and a short row of pole beans I'm pretty much good to go with the exception of a few odds and ends. After years of planting in ground gardens I thought that planting just containers would feel 'weird but it doesn't. It feels like quite the accomplishment.

Good morning all. Another hot day ahead of us here with temps in the 90s. First part of the month felt like March, a week later and it feels like July. Go figure
