The Old Folks Home

Quote: Self taught is just as good!! Ask SCG! She just started sewing and like you is having fun with quilts. Granted shirts are more of a challenge, but if you can find a shirt pattern with instructions for a small child or even better for a stuffed toy, I say go for it!

Quote: I love the old stories too--

I edited the orig post down to my favorite pics. THe calls are darling. THe 2 jacobs are picture perfect in their pose. And the ewe with the little one reminds me of one of my ewes that is now long gone and long forgotten . . . thank you for reminding me of her . . .

I have a grandson to be born in 8 days and I was thinking about this quilt and pillow case for him. What do you all think of it? I have to finish the quilt and it is wrinkled from me washing it. But what do you think?

I love it. Nicely done. I have always liked Pooh and Friends, they're a timeless classic.

I did a 15+ hour shift yesterday, that was fun. I spent an extra 2 hours in bed this morning but that didn't help. I'm getting too old for this crap.

Loving the stories people!!

I always have vivid dreams and they rarely bother me upon waking. I hope I don't have any more like that one. I'll take not dressed for work, Bigfoot, and aliens (my usual "bad dreams') any day! Oh, there's also the one where the bullets dribble out of the end of the gun when I try to shoot a bad guy.

Love that one.
I was always running from a monster and during the dream I couldn't understand why my legs would barely move when I was normally a very fast runner.

When my dad was a kid, he was occasionally trapped in the outhouse by the neighbor's bull. His whole adult life, he had that recurring nightmare.
I am hatching Dorkings and New Heritage Delawares for Kim Consul(aka Capayvalley chick) and a series of eggs for an Egg Farmer in Winters. I currenly have 100 incubating in three incubators. I will be stagger hatching each Friday for a long time to come. I maybe hatching 40 a week, 160 a month so if I hatch for 6 to 7 months, I will hatch over 1000 chicks.

I am also working on my own projects but so far I have only set a couple of dozen for myself. I do not have room for lots of chicks at my place. Most of what I am hatching goes to their owners place within a day of hatching.

See, I get to practice my hatching and not keep the chicks! Genius!
I wish I had the space for more hatching, I don't have room for more coops/pens and my buildings are filling up. I'm going to have to cull some to hatch more.
I'm sure I'll be in the Easter hatch though.

...

Now that IS some nightmare...a funeral home AND KFC? Boy getting married...yeh, we all have to get our heads wrapped around our babes growing up and getting lives of their own...I agree tho, sixteen and married...eek! Really?

My oldest sister got married when she was 15. My other sister and my brother were both married at 18. I waited till I was 35.

Pretty place!

I learned to sew when I was about 10. My mom's sewing machine kept breaking down and I would fix it for her. I made some of my Halloween costumes when I grew up but that, hemming, mending and buttons is about it.
You learn a lot about something when you learn about the machine that does the work. I tried knitting when my sister took it up but soon lost interest.

Daughter update. Here's a couple of her messages.

"After a 19 hour travel day, finally arrived in Siem Reap, Cambodia! One month of my journey down, two to go.. —"
----------
(that was 5 hours longer than it was supposed to)
---------- (Siem Reap is where the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat are located. Built at the beginning of the 12th century, it is the largest religious monument in the world. )
----------

OMG the cutest little Korean girl named Amy just came up to me to practice her English. She was visiting Cambodia on vacation. She's maybe 9 or 10 and could hold a full conversation. While we were talking my ice cream melted. We said goodbye and she came back a couple minutes later saying, "I'm sorry your ice cream melted, here I brought you a famous snack from Korea, it grows in the sea!" I can't believe it. So cute. I love the world."

Sorry you had to do a 15+ hr. shift! Hopefully after some coffee and a little rest you will feel better.

Quote: I make table clothes, placemats & napkins, over the door pocket organizers, pillows quilts and alot more. Always looking for new ideas.
Still trying to finish a crocheted afgan for one daughter. I love to get creative. Maybe I will make him a foot ball or something? Thanks

Quote: While I don't like to travel, the world opens up when you can travel-- I do my traveling via PBS on TV and public radio when in the car. Nothing like listening to Asian news with a differnt bent to reporting than the AMerican news. ANd National Geographic, and friends like you that share your daughters travels.

My son has an the opportunity to camp with his boy scouts in huts in the winter, in freezing cold, in the next state . . . and I will let him go . . . scouting is giving him so many things that I canont. But I can open the door, and I can encourage him to walk in.

He had to do a speech for one of his merit badges TUesday night- -geez, I shook and squeaked thru my high school speech class, lol, and I didn't want him to have the same experience of waiting until late teens to speak in public. Later at home I asked how it went (I was there talking to a few leaders) and he was not too badly shaken up by the experience, thankfully a good experience for him. At least the boy scouts are a safe place for him to studder and shake-- all listened at full attention and respect.

Amen to that. I much prefer BBC and NPR to other news sources. That said, as a news junkie, I absorb them all. Watching real news opens up the mind to facts and news one would never get watching a single news source.

Scouts are a great for all kids!

That's great that he did it! It will help with his self confidence, as it does for every scout.

Again...I think that sounds like my idea of He**. I would much rather spend 6 mos in 80-110˚ with 80% humidity.

Happy Birthday Wisher!!

HBBto you Hagar!! That's Happy Belated Birthday !

Happy Birthday to you both. My whole family is made of February birthdays, practically. My little sister even had her daughter on her own birthday. It's pretty crazy. I'm off in solitary in November, the week of Thanksgiving so I generally get by unscathed and unnoticed!

Bunny that was awesome of you to do that for Wisher!

I completely believe that the majority of nuts in our country can be found in CA, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out that TX is #2

Oh, man. You clearly never made it to Kansas. NE Kansas has a monopoly on wonky supremes. The town I live in has an especially high number, and we're a stone's throw from the state capitol, where there's such a glut it's surreal. Do a search for 'Kansas' and 'Law' or 'Bill' in Google News sometime...well worth a few hours of laughs!!

Heard from my daughter finally. She's in a bar with wi-fi having a fresh pineapple shake. She's in Don Det (4000 islands area of the Mekong River) Laos. She has a river bungalow with a deck over the river and a hammock. Here's the view from her deck at sunrise.

She said it's so nice and relaxing there, no ATMs, no cars and hammocks everywhere. All the bars and restaurants have mattresses and pillows on the ground with short tables. She spent all day yesterday kayaking to the largest waterfall in SE Asia. She was also fortunate to see some Laotian Irawaddy dolphins. There are only 6 left in the area and only 50 left of the Mekong subspecies.
The falls are Khone Phapheng. They stretch for 6 miles and are 69' high.

Every time she talks about the area she mentions how peaceful and laid back it is and that she hates to leave.
Tomorrow she's on a 12 hour bus ride to Cambodia.

Thanks you so much for taking us along on your daughter's adventure- it's been a lovely escape from this grey, bitter, hideous winter!

Now you've done it. I lost my last 2 Parti Chanté hens this winter and I've been trying to resist finding more....but they really are one of the nicest breeds I've ever known, for so many reasons. I need to find some!! All the folks I know with them aren't selling this year, so it's going to be tough- but I have to do it.
