The Old Folks Home

DH reports that one of the ameraucana's have pipped and he hears chirping. Hopefully we will have one or more chicks by the end of the evening or early tomorrow. We locked down 11 out of 12.

The Paper said the funnel Cloud was very close to me--about a mile East. Luckily it did not touch down.
That is so wonderful that it just went on by! Thank God! I can recall when all the weather men in Calif all said that Cali never had a tornado!

Still a great success.

I would take it. 99% of any hatching is good in my opinion The only really successful hatch so far for DH was our very first hatch and that was Rhodebars and it was 8 out of 12. Unfortunately the weather last summer was very wet and hot on the tikes last summer and only two survived to adolescences. They are very handsome cockerels and they are looking for some ladies. We have two more Rhodebar hatch a few weeks ago - one male and one femaie. We have a broody working on some Buff Orps and I have some of the same eggs in an incubator. I really need to get a cabinet incubator. We sell our eggs and we need more hens because the demand for the eggs is greater than our production. On top of that we have people who want to purchase chicks for their backyards.
Thank you I was happy with it. lol I know it is not as easy as I thought it would be to hatch. I am trying to talk DH into buying me a more automated incubator.
It does get easier. I did the dry hatch method for the first 18 days then for my area here it is very humid so I had to experiment with the humidity levels and found that 70% worked for me.
I have some customers that have been coming wanting birds since last fall, and I have not had any for them. So I told them it won't be much longer. I also need more eggs! I kept running out as well. I could not keep up. Hopefully I will be better prepared this year.

chickadoodles..I love your baby dancing chick avi...soo cute
Thank you. Your pic is very pretty.

let the hatch begin. 1 crele penedesenca x silver ameraucana is out. 1 more trying. many of the other eggs are wiggling so hopefully soon

Good luck on your hatch to Hangtown

Ms Drumstick Diva sent me a lovely photo today of her wearing her personalized apron that I made for her around Christmas. She's graciously allowing me to share it with the Old Folks.

I will hopefully have a less risque quilt top finished tomorrow to share with the group so long as the snow tonight doesn't accumulate and cause me to have to shovel it tomorrow.

Saw a giant hawk today, I may need to put my fishing line "netting" back over the coop tomorrow, too.
